Hello, complete newbie here!
need some help/advice/comment
I have been looking at getting an old radiogram, with the intention of updating it... however, I reckon it might be better to actually build one from scratch...
I would be looking at a construction of plywood cut using a cnc machine.
With recycling one it would have an amp/speakers but with a new build there is a bit of opportunity to transplant these things in - I don't need it to be loud but i am a bit concerned that the speakers might made a cd skip? and how to combat that?
also: all the components are a bit up in the air at the moment
what I would like is:
a cd player
a bluetooth receiver (maybe NFC) too
DAB Radio
(possibly a streaming device but might just keep with the bluetooth only)
and that is really it - maybe some kind of usb hook up too
I was thinking I might butcher a turntable but tbh I don't really want to - would be cool to get a cd player that was like a turntable tho (kinda like the muji ones but connected into the amp...)
With the speakers I'm not sure how to approach it, initially the old cabinet I was looking at had wooden slats in front of the speakers but I guess that has an impact on the quality of the speakers output? would it be significant or able to be designed out, or is mesh the best way to go?
Has anyone else attempted anything similar? interested to see things that have been done
I'll post up some of my design later, but all comments are welcome!

There is a user that fits these into "ammo box" boomboxes DC 12v Digital LED Bluetooth mp3 Decoder Board FM Radio Usb Sd AUX + Remote wire | eBay
He says the sound quality is acceptable, here is his thread http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/chip-amps/262276-10watts-power-amp.html
It could be tucked away out of sight to be more in keeping with your design ideas.

That looks pretty interesting - kinda stuck on the thought of whether it's best to do something like that or try to use standard HiFi separates that could be upgraded, but build them into a cabinet... So many ideas flying around at the moment!
I have had it in mind to build a similar project around a cathedral radio for some time.
I would probably go with a mono LM1875 and a full range speaker for mine.

A year on and this hasn't been done yet! had a job move/house renovation and baby to sort out in the mean time, however, now I have a shed so something is going to happen with this idea shortly!!
haha! too right...
I quite fancy getting everything in one cabinet and speakers behind some grilles away from kiddy fingers!!

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Well, almost another year on... got myself a nice 60's number which is still fully functioning, had a din input so I've got a chromecast/cd player and aux in hidden away in it, which will do until I get into actually fitting one out properly!
