Hi all, long time I have not posted anything 🙂

I am looking at a 'portable audiophile sound reproducer' That I would like to offer to myself soon (For me, from me 🙂 )
So I am surfing the web to see what is available outside the apple realm.
I found quite a few products available and I am just in awe in front of the amazing technology that they can pack inside such diminutive packages.

The unit I have in mind are the FIIO X3 X5 or X7.
At first I kind of took them as audio toys to connect in the car so I can play my type of music instead of listening to the radio but then again, I looked at the spec, and the chips they use and found that these are very serious 'audiophile' high quality units, for not so much money asked!

Then, surfing the web some more, i found this! : Mi Note - Mi Global Home
Now THAT is flabergasting technology! 😎😎 The thing is a phone, a GPS, a digital display for high resolution movies, a rather good camera (video and stills) a calculator, a WEB terminal, and a very capable music player with very good specs. The battery autonomy is in the 10 hours range and the design is sleek, thin and very light.
I have no idea as to the price of it, but just think that this thing is replacing thousands and thousands of dollars of various technologies of just a few years ago!

So what technology does impress you?
I for one can name: The glucose analyser for diabetics, they are getting smaller ans smaller and more precise, so are the blood pressure monitors, digital cameras and video cameras, the cellular phone system, the digital banking systems. Al of the new biomedic monitoring systems, the 3D scanning and reproduction systems.
We live in a world of technological marvels that finally have got beyond what HG wells, Jules Verne, Isaac Azimov and the likes have dreamed in their wildest dreams.
We are very close of Dr. McCoy's 'tricorder', close to he unified translation and communication modules, close to a form of universal telepathy.
Yet, we also live in one of the most savage time for humanity.

I am just firing a discussion here and reiterate the question: What technology impresses you the most at the beginning of 2016?

and if you download appropriate sound effects, you can make it sound exactly like that

when a fully functioning tricorder comes out, then I'll be impressed

but for now, the Cassini-Huygens probe and the like are pretty damned amazing.

English not being my first language (I am French Canadian) I do not always grasp the subtleties of the idiom.
You seem to imply that a 'trekkie' is a somewhat pejorative term.
The fact is that I think I understand perfectly the meaning of 'trekker' (one who travels, who engage on a trek, to boldly where no one has gone before 🙂 )
The way I understand the word 'Trekkie' , he is a fan, an amateur, a boffin of the series and all that pertains to it, which to me is a perfectly apt and acceptable term.
Of course, I will use the proper term if I am told the semantic reasoning behind it. This is what makes learning another language so interesting!

Par le grand Caribou, cher cousin du grand froid, essaye avec ton casque préféré le smartphone Meizu MX4 or MX5, some are are saying it works good with most of the load headphones and outperforms Apple stuffs and all tabletts ! It has an ESS chip and many call it the audiophile Smartphone choice !

Eldam, que l'Orignal me pique! I don't use a smartphone!
I am afraid I am a pretty bad trekker meself! I use a simple flip=phone with 200 minutes per month plan and I barely use 10 minutes a month!
But I need to monitor my glucose level and blood pressure level, I am an avid earth trekker so I use diligently the GPSs for my overlanding trip )I own a Pinzgauer 710M by the way! yess! 🙂 )
But when I started my audiman carreer at studio Marko in montreal, the neve and the Harrison consoles were about 12 feet longs and had more than 5,000 buttons and lamps and dials, more than 600 points patchbays, and the Studer 24 tracks were a large fridge affairs weighting about 600 lbs each and costing the price of a nice house! (The consoles were the price of a VERY nice house! )
Now I use a RME Fireface UFX (3K$ can) Reaper DAW and I can do more than in those days and it all load in the rear of my little Nissan car (Versa note) With some good mikes, a bit of cabling and mic stands, I can record record classical music concert with extremely good quality, precision, dynamics etc...
In the good old days that involved hauling around a Studer A800 2 tracks and a Revox A77 as a backup, a 'small' console (Studer 12 ins 4 outs, I do not remember the model) A whole case of tapes at about 60$ each for 45minutes, and then ZOOM comes with this! https://www.zoom.co.jp/ !

Just amazing, live long and prosper! This is one of the most beautiful whish you can give to anyone.

And there are a few trials with trans-cutaneous glucose monitors going on.

I would bet that a single device will come to market for monitoring/screening a lot of health issues, and be available to the public.

Unlike the Star Trek medical devices though, which you just wave at the patient, these require a certain placement, and actual skin contact.

I really don't know what t(r)ecknology surprised me as I have a poor information about science! It seems to me we discover daily fantastic things while we are not able to stop bad utilisation of it. Monsanto and equivalent still exist, some are still believing global warming is a myth, Debian Gurus are beated by cops and there are still some people who are believing wemen should be closed at home after 11 ! rentable enterprises are closed because they have not two number growth for founds to allow the richest to have huge ego 4x4 or eat 300 g of meat everyday !

So I will say the best technology should be to play more collective ! Internet was a good one ! But there is still a gap with the poorer for the acess of it !

Btw if l'Original nous mord, que la Fée Lation :sa sœur, se penche sur notre berceau !
