Lol you sold your sunglasses you mean ?
If you could hear my Lundhaled Philips 5500 🙂... but yes it doesn't play often ! I was in the spirit of the OP : buy & forgett (no network hassle !)

Network hassle ? Setup is a 5 minute issue. A Lundahled Philips 5500 ? For the price of the transformers you could have had a nice network player isn't it ?
Kept the sunglasses as I could not find a digital 64 bit "better viewing" HD version 😉

Mmm that is one of the reasons people buy a One or similar all-in-ones. Those that don't have problems with the rare (read: always) occurring problematic computing issues and like long nights with little sleep use pc's/laptops with peripherals 😉 True, audio devices that need to "boot" keep giving me shivers but one gets accustomed after a while. Stockholm syndrome.

aka.... Iphone !
To swap the Olive :
Buy the expensive peripherical to plug the 4 wires of your speakers on the flat Iphone plug.... No need of Hard Disk, it's already the past ! All is in the Cloud... with a 5 years issue to the streaming service! take a second littlier Iphone as a remote !
Sell the SqueezeBox to the RiljkMuseum and putt the Olive in a bathtube of half Gin & 1/4 Vermouth.... Dry Classic ! Of course shake only with a spoon !
Btw I saw than the cheap DACMAGIC 100 has an input USB harddrive plug ! I'm asking myself if the modern provider Internet Box have not an USB streamer output which can be pluged on such DAC ?

The Sony HAP-Z1ES has just added the ability to rip CDs directly from an external USB drive (external supply required) so that is another option, but probably outside of budget and OP comfort range. I however like mine quite a lot..😉
Hmmm Now you have my attentions.
Long leary of "puter Audio for 2 reasons, if I might ?
a) I have a Box full of failed Western Digital hard drives.. as reminder.
b) Instant / click of a Mouse access to any and all music tracks is too reminiscent of that old Springsteen refrain:
"500 channels and nothing to watch".
That said,. Burning copies (if it works reliably 🙂 Does have appeal.
Waiting on CD deliveries for recordings of unknown quality..sucks, in a word.
Sooo being totally unaware of the process..
Any possible "dummies" synopsis of what's involved ? Or a place to read on the setup/pitfalls.
PS: have used DVD player(s) since ~2000, Toshiba being, in my experiments, the better sounding OEM..
Subsequently modded to the point that the PCB tracks couldn't take any more abuse.
Sounds Really quite Nice on my Mark Audio full range drivers.
But Fingernails on a chalkboard through my Tannoy Golds.
System matching, As Always.. is critical. Seriously!

Olive - ONE
There is nothing difficult to it really but I would use a NAS like a Synology 2 disk NAS for back up of all music files and use the local HD or SSD for the many various CD's you want to listen to. With a 2 tb hard disk that are a lot of CD's. If th disk fails you can copy your material to the new disk again. SSDs have many advantages over hard disks mainly that they don't make noise and that they're very fast.
My advice would be to always have a 2 disk NAS for any of the current available music player solutions 🙂
BTW you are not burning but "ripping" original CD's to (preferably) lossless FLAC files or WAV if you are a hard core red book fan. I would not even bother to rip them to MP3 with todays hard disk prices. I use XLD for this on a Mac. For pc's there are several free ad infested solutions so beware. I like Cdex best for Windows and last time I used it it still was ad free.

You have just abandoned the concept of personal music collections....
No more tangibles to be held in one's hands, no more longing for that latest acquisition.
A hobby destroyed?
Well thanks
There was mention of Downloading/buying Music files.
Presumably in exact CD quality ? .. then Burning these to a RW disc (albeit I have serious reservations on that.. given the proven self destructo rate of RW discs)
But I'm more than willing to hear an in depth despription of a simple PROVEN setup that ...Isn't the flavour of the week ?? AND will not disappear by next year.
Olive gizmo is certainly of "sparkly" appearance. Likely why people buy it.
But @ 700 Euros, base price.. I don't think soi.
And I can use it's 50 Pfenning onboard Amp chip to drive MY speakers??
Ain't gonna Happen.
C'mon .. Everybody Means well and I appreciate that...
BUT.. I've been doing this Audio Lark 'thing' for over ~50 years and I've learned, sometimes painfully, that there is a preponderance of Smoke /Mirrors , personal Hobby Horses and just plain Bull***t... in Audio Weenie land.
No need to perpetuate the Stereotype.. Is there?
Again:
What is a Simple Reliable method of getting music to my Speakers that works as well as My Vinyl / CD library?

An inexpensive windows laptop with an external USB drive and any number of decent USB dacs including the quite nice sounding Audioquest Firefly are potential solutions. (Regarding the Firefly I was more than a little surprised frankly at how good it sounded and it will do 24/48, 24/88 and 24/96 in addition to standard red book.) Add J River media center which handles everything else (ripping, database, and great UI) and you are good to go. J River supports DNLA so you can use a cheap Android phone or tablet as a smart remote control. Assumes some level of computer literacy and patience to get it all working. The reward is significantly better sound quality, access to the high res files online. Music at your finger tips. Careful shopping brings it in at a reasonable price.
If the entry level Olive is out of your range the Sony HAP-Z1ES at $2K is a complete non-starter, but something like the above could be quite effective.

Assumptions and old habits, fear for the unknown....
Its amps drive difficult speakers without problems. They're class D and drive my difficult speakers with ease. Cost of parts does not say so much these days.
I would like that more manufacturers would produce user friendly audio devices instead of the pc/laptop with all their peculiarities and endless configuration troubles, virusscanners, trojans, adblockers, OS updates and other maintenance. For me a device should switch on, boot and just do its job. I guess I am part of a minority.

Ha ah ah...it was à pub for J_P... people here know I am in the second degree crash pun often...
Of course with data : always in loss less and a back up elsewhere... you can make when you want to stream your private cloud for nothing today...Synology box for instance for the lazy and non IT guys...

Using a cell phone for music won't happen.... you will be continuously busy apping all friends and music will be background muzak then Eldam.
Oups : cheap ess 9018 / HiFime Sabre 9018 USB DAC a Subbu challenge ? (hey they read Gary & me for the capacitors NCC PSA 🙂 ) (did you notice the cool usb chip isolator !)
Jean-Paul, I have ythe Synology 2 disks for a Raid 1 back-up... But I really advise to have a simple back-up elswhere outside the home! Why ?
A serious back-up should allow you to save your data if they are stolen (at home with your originals CDs!), fired, flowded, earthstriked, etc !
Simple Nas like the low priced Synology have no buffered controller on battery in case of crash + disk problem : if a disk fail, bad data can be writed on the second one and sometimes so it is crashed also !
I personnaly make sometimes a manual back up via the USB of my synology and computer on a simple portable HDD which I stock elswhere with a password !
Notice It's easy to have two Synology (or somrthing else Nas) at two places which are replicating each other automaticly via the net (crypted of course) : We name this Geo-CLuster in the IT world
PS : for the moment my Syno (so Linux distrib but plug&play) stream via its output usb via a Wave/IO to my Aya 2 (with the IanCanada stuffs in between !)... But a standalone Synology disk with such little dac linked above is an excellent solution for the money ! Add a portable usb Hdd 2.5 size 1 or 2 To for the manual back-up you store elswhere, et voilà !
No need to use the phone to the Linux RasberrySupport with the friends ! (But I surmise when Voluminio 2 will be launched in stable version I will at least putt it on a RasberryPi for the cool interface (i.e. the remote with a smartphone !)
