I removed the pot from this board and replaced the headphone input because the original one was broken. I tried running it without the pot but now when it starts I get a pop from the right channel every 3 seconds or so. It's like the chip is turning on and off. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Try adding a terminating resistor to ground at the input, of the value of the pot or smaller.
