How about the Lm3875 or Lm3886. I remember somewhere in their application note about single supply use.

Tried it and it was very good. But not enough information (for beginners) about setting the input bias voltage so beware.

Thanks for the suggestion... Still, the concept only accepts TO-220 devices. I'm not planning to change that.
