Minor correction, they have shut the channel but are making it available on demand.

How did the cat manage to get to a position to pee on a TV? Sure its fixable. Only 3 boards in a TV these days max.

Probably, it stood on the TV stand and sprayed, it has been doing a lot of this lately and since both him and his brother (who doesn't do it) are eunuchs we thought it wouldn't happen...
Enjoying watching a 23" monitor from 4 metres at the moment🙂

which capacitors would these be? Only metal bodied ones I can think of offhand are the hoofing great psu ones that stick out the top, not the interstage couplers.

However in the CH case he had PSU caps hookedup through a significant inductance (8-12" of flying lead) so their hope of performing their required function was at best limited!

Similar to some of the USB and Ethernet audiophile approved add on filters with PTH caps to filter the digital noise..........

(funnily while I was sat in front of it trying to avoid peeing!)

Mr. Marce, please make up your mind.
To Bypee or not to Bypee, that is the question.

Happened to me, water leakage from above, and by my mistake.
Easy peasy to fix, two high tension transistors and a few lytics (eew, the cheapos they put in those things).
And I thought the real marvel of lcd tv's was on the outside.

I'd be more worried about the cat-whizzle

Exactly. Our brains are wired for over detection. But some people prefer to remain in complete denial of their own humanity. Much more comforting to them that way. Unfortunately that keeps them trapped in a Theodoric of York world of ignorance.

"oh the humanity"
exactly has they fiddle about with wooden blocks and metal spikes on amps and speakers that look as tho taken straight from the 1950'-60s, they move audio tech at such great strides.

I wondered who bought 4K TVs before there was useful content.

isn't 3D officially dead in the water? even sky has shut down their 3D service.

I am usually an 'early adopter' type.... or as early as I can afford.... or even adopt it mentally....except in software ... that stuff is never right the first time out of the box. Though it too is getting better with experience and technology tools and improvements. There are enough 3D HD titles to warrant its purchase IMO. And, 4K looks even clearer at close range on large size screens.... in the typical Asian sized condo, that makes a difference. And, there is upscaling as well. So, what is there not to like. And, the SMART video stuff is amazing --- Just like the mobile phone is really a computer with a phone added to it..... the TV is also a computer with a large monitor added to it. 8-core processors et al.

Netflix and others have 3D HD streaming and plan to do 4K as well.

Here in Bangkok, I get 18mbs downloads as standard for the price of 3mbs in usa. That is enough for 4K streaming. Life is good at the edge.

I am going to claim on the insurance first then fix it, possibly🙂
Happily one moth on and I can Bypee again, sans tears and screams🙂

The notion that in limited scenarios relocating some capacitors from the chassis and mounting them on wood improves sound has a very prosaic explanation. Popular metal bodied capacitors commonly used in tube circuits can have significant capacitance between terminals and case. In a coupling position the added capacitance to ground is seen by the preceding driver stage.
Approaching it as voodoo from the onset almost insures effects like this wouldn't be discovered.

Some large cap cases are plastic and some are metal..... radiated fields from the cap winding (a coil) is another possibility with non-metal cases.

I want a 4K monitor, 30-32" will do....
Though I have thought of a 42" it would give me the same pixel pitch and viewing area as 4 x 23" monitors. Got to admit the 4Ks showing the 4K demos look fantastic....
Gonna talk sweetly to the insurance co.

I find the 4K demos in costco hatefully overhyped. way too much saturation. Even kodachrome wasn't that OTT.

As >90% of films and TV produced these days is sh*te investing in something that will help reduce the IQ of all watching it rather than some nourishing music I'll stick with what I have. Others may not agree with me on this of course 🙂

I recommend the Samsung... curved screen...... better off-axis and on-axis and no glare.

The very popular Russian PIOs and silver micas come immediately to mind. Interestingly the Soviets recognized this in the construction of their Teflon caps. The capacitor itself is suspended inside and insulted by air from the external metal housing on two glass insulated posts. I guess when your Mig absolutely, positively has to get there on time...

How can a curved screen improve off-axis?

It's the new geometry to go with the new maths. I thought they used to go through a lot of work to eliminate geometric distortion now they deliberately create a sweet spot for one, must be a subtle sociological comment. Next they'll be saying films shot at 1.85:1 look better with the variable stretch applied to the outside edges to fill HD.

The sh*** at Costco is probably HD up processed, for the first time ours had a short loop of 4K running this week.

Afaik there is less L in the cap itself than in the leads because of the way the 'coils' are connected on their outer edges, each on one opposing side.

That type construction will reduce the L. The circular circulating current in the foil/plate are going in opposite directions at 180 degrees locations of the tabs.

Curved screen ... any time you can reduce the distance difference from center to edge the eye will see a clearer picture across the entire area.

How do you expect to get any sort of significant radiation from two electrodes spaced apart by the thin dielectric that separates them? Radiation is a function of loop area. With a microscopically thin dielectric film, how do you expect to get any sort of significant loop area?
