Help this rocky to chose an Amp
Hi guys, i have a pair of Yamaha A15 and i was wondering if you would help me decide or find a good amplifier for them? i have a Radio Shack PA 250 right know, and it doesn't provide enough juice, well, at all. i was looking at the QSC GX3/5 and the Crown 2000/2500....and countless hours trying to decide or find the right amp for these speakers. I use them in my room and some times in my uncles back yard with around 50 people. I don't want to expend the extra money on a lot of power, i just want the right Amp for them, tired of this RS clipping like crazy 😱

Buy a used Crest CPX900.
There is one on eBay right now for $109 + 20 for shipping.
The CPX series have a built in 150hz crossover for adding a subwoofer (which you need if you are playing anything with bass as the A15 are 10dB down at 65hz).

I just took a look at, I don't really think that will be enough tho, it's only 180 @8ohms. Thanks for the info tho. But I'm looking at least 320-500 @8ohms, price always in mind of course 🙂 I would rather not get behringer. And you are right, I'll add a sub in the future because these guys are pure midrange, good sound for entry level tho, but I wouldn't mind to get another amp for the sub, or just might get a powered one, I don't know, for now I just can get an amp for the Yamahas that provide them good juice, they are rated at 200rms 400pgm 🙂
There is no such thing as the 1 "right" amp for these speaker, any amp that can generate 300-400w/ch at 8ohms will do and Crown and QSC are good brands so pick one and pull the trigger.

LOL you are right! then i'll pull the trigger in either one of those. I was looking some eminence drives today to replaces the stock yamaha A15 since they very weak. I was looking at the Kappa 15C or the Delta 15LFA eminence for the lower frequency range. Any advice on that?
Drop kick that idea into the ocean and forget it ever crossed your mind. The drivers in the Yamahas are not weak they are purpose built(by Eminence no less) for that box and it's intended uses and you will not improve it by installing a different driver. If you need more bass get a sub or subs, portable fullrange PA cabs like this are not designed to produce big bass.. period.was looking some eminence drives today to replaces the stock yamaha A15 since they very weak.

Thanks for the fast reply. i like your answers, fast and direct to the point. I just thought that with the Kappa 15C was gonna get better bass since they are 450rms and the yamahas 200rms, they both have the same frequency response tho. but well, i guess ill look into a sub then lol...
watts is not an indication of spl output (the assumption that 450 vs 200,that the higher wattage correlates to more sound is false/wrong)
1 watt/ 1 meter spl readings/ratings are more useful in comparing which driver is louder/more sensitive.
conanski is spot about adding sub's!

You're kidding yourself.
320W is less than 2.5dB more than 180W, a barely audible difference.
While the speaker can handle that without bursting into flames, it will be into power compression before you even see that 2.5dB.
conanski is right about driver swaps, don't even think about it.
Build a sub as soon as you can and run the tops in mono, and the sub on the other channel. I have some friends that do this with the bigger Club Series Yamaha C115 IV and one of the dual 15 subs from their big rig PA, and they use a CPX900 for power. Later you can buy another amp. At that point you can bridge the CPX900 for 900W into a 4Ω sub, and use the built in crossover to feed the new amp to drive the tops.
CPX series are available in 900W, 1500W, 2600W, and 3800W models. I have used all but the CPX3800 model.

The A15 enclosure is optimized & tuned for the original woofer. If you replace the woofer with a "better" model, you run the risk of things like overshoot, flabby low end, or an SPL mismatch thru the passive Xover with the HF driver. I second drop-kicking that idea.
As has been mentioned so many times before, eventually you will be disappointed with the deep bass response of any 2 separated 15" drivers lifted off the ground for the sake of HF dispersion. If you need more bass, add subs.
