Parasound HCA-1000A No Sound

Hi, right... I bought a Parasound HCA-1000a but did not have a propper Preamp to test it with, however today I borrowed a friends Halo C2 Preamp today to properly test it and, no sound 🙁 I have run through the setup of it over and over again to make sure I have not set it up wrong and I believe I haven't. It switches on ok, does not stay in protect mode, I can hear the speaker relay clicking also to switch on.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

I have a schematic that Parasound sent to me. I can send it to you if you provide an email. Or, it is available on the internet if you do a search.

Is the output relay working (do you hear a click when it comes out of protect)? It is the relay at the back near the speaker terminals.

I hope you can get it up and running. I re-capped mine and it is a sweet amp.

Hi, yes, the relay switches on, the lights all come on also, the green ready light to the right and amber ac light to the left, but just no sound, not even static when I turn the volume up high. I am using a Halo C2 preamp (tested with a different poweramp, plus the speakers, both work fine. Am at a loose end with it...

HIFI Engine has the schematic and owner's manual posted. Parasound HCA-1000A Manual - High Current Power Amplifier - HiFi Engine . You will need to create an account if you don't already have one.

That is strange. The only thing that stands between the output transistors and the speaker terminals is the relay. It is possible for a relay to click but the contacts not close properly. If the amp were shorted, the amp would not come out of protect.

Are you plugging the preamp into the top two RCA jacks? Not in "Mono Bridge" mode (switch should be down)?

If that address doesn't work, could try their service email: service@parasound.com .

They are pretty cool at Parasound. I have emailed them a few times and usually Richard Schram, the company president, responds. While I am sure they would like to sell us all some new Halo amps, I think they know the value of good customer support. Because of that support, I'd buy one if my financial situation accommodated. But I have 5 kids to raise and get through college.
