I actually rejected someone that just gave me textbook answers about his thesis about a control system during an interview. Total ignorance of reality.
The question asked was "why do you use a constant gain model for the sensors?" When the answer was "that's what they use in the text books" I showed him the door.

Dude... Seriously! Grab a textbook.

So I guess the right, proper out-of-the-box thinking answer would have been "I try random things without really understanding what they do".
Much of the conjecture in the many MyRef Threads is based on non science. One must learn to separate the wheat from the chaff, there is a lot of chaff about. In one of the MyRef threads, it was also mentioned that difference between just plating the soldering pads on the PCB vs full plating made a difference. I think it is possible, but never tried to see how much a difference it would make.
Of the conjecture, some may have been about skin depth and it's effect of adding resistance due to current hogging/density, but I suspect you have picked upon a comment and not recognised that it may have been referring to the potential/real problem of joint embrittlement due to solder contamination.

There is far too much "guess engineering" on this Forum.
Hypothesise and experiment to prove the hypothesis. Your peers then repeat the proof and the hypothesis becomes a Theory that no one can prove wrong. They only have the option to make the model more accurate.

Well, I did buy the Mod 86 board without having all my questions and request for data answered. For example.

Not really sure how you disable these.
Lot's of things I listen to, but I will only clearly state where I agree or have had the same experience. I have no experience which way of plating a board is best because I never systematically tried to find out. But if people say they hear a difference and have a preference, I do not rush to discredit their experience either. I did try to look for explanation, with what I came up with, I would take a different choice, but I doubt at this time I would be able to make a preference based on audition experience. I did find lead based solder to be more to my preference, and there is an audible difference between the solder brands and model, each just seem to have there own sonic signature and I never could fine a criteria for selection. So I just stick with an unleaded that is easy to work with, just to make sure there no surprises going into production.

Using a properly controlled, double-blind listening test, I assume?

Indeed. But engineering is for the closed-minded, numbers-staring "numbers is the truth" dullards anyway. What do they know about ART and MUSIC and EMOTION?

🙂
Here I haven't been doing a sig - elsewhere I usually use the - Paul W Klipsch quote from 1953: "To try to judge the real from the false will always be hard. In this fast-growing art of 'high fidelity' the quackery will bear a solid gilt edge that will fool many people"
Bach is not and artistic that makes music emotional !
Bach is all about numbers.
Number is NOT exclusive to art/music/emotion.

But you would say that, wouldn't you? 🙂

I don't see the value of it. You can use it to prove a point in academic research, but I always find other system issues that may mask the results when no audible results are
found.

. . . hate it when that happens . . .

I see.

I always find other issues mask the actual differences in sound when doing a sighted listening.

I think whatever protocol is going to have some pros and cons, that is why one needs to be aware what you want to accomplish during tests. I just threw in the different solder issue arbitrarily to see if it was worth serous consideration. Turned out not significant enough to worry about. I also discovered that not sufficient information was available on solder to help decide whether one would perform better or not.
Would you build your mod86 soon to compare with your Myrefc? 🙂
I am going to slip some time in to do it. Had been testing how sensitive the Theile network would be with different wire gauges and number of turns to fit into the board.
We have someone here who is close to failing a Turing test!
Maybe related to the new age ******** generator?
