So you want Received Pronunciation (aka Queen's English) to be the reference?

Not India but in Nigeria they have over 500 local languages and having English as the official language allows them all to communicate with each other on an equal footing.
I could see similar advantages for english in India but would be interested in how Hiten sees it
Hi and this is very interesting and i think is a positive effect of the English presence there.
I think it is quite the same for India.

lasses should be plural of lassscottish lasses rule and sound sweeeeeet
But in Scotland:
Lassies is a group of younger age females.
The plural of lassie.
OK my mistake. Lots of non English speaking developed countries too. But I guess they also must be influenced by the English. I am not sure. I guess I think I should have said that most information and knowledge is easily available in English language instead of the word countries. And to learn the world would follow English language. Only time can tell.Really? As their mother language? I don't think that is true. For instance, there are quite a bunch of developed countries in Europe and as far as I know only one has English as mother tongue (lumping GB as a single country in this context which may or may not be frowned upon).

I can only give my perspective, I had to learn Four Languages. My First language (mother oungue), language of the State in which I reside, our national language (Hindi) and ofcourse English. I believe there was awareness of learning English but was not that much of a necessity when I was learning. School at which I learned had approximately 4000 students (Two shifts and four divisions) and now hardly 150 students are getting education in regional language. Also you will have to see from the perspective that we had 300 years of moghul and 200 years of British rule. But at present I feel people here are willingly accepting english language. I dont mind if learning a language is helping people getting ahead in life and prosper or seek knowledge.Hi and very interesting.
I would be very interested what is the attitude of Indian people towards English language.
I mean, do you love it ? neutral ? feel forced when you use it ?
Just a curiosity.
Thanks a lot, gino

Clearly diction is an important part of the communication. A clear diction conveys words/concepts better.
There are many examples like this one also ...

Hi and thanks for the kind and very interesting reply.
Sorry but i am learning english 😱 do you mean that english in some ways has taken over the education in regional language ?
The english has become more and more the language in schools ?
This is very important.

In a thousand years, the US/GB will be long lost 'civilisations', and English will be the root of various lingos as Latin/Greek have been.
Chinglish, but not to forget, Portu-Greek !
(overhere, folks will speak Sneysish, derived from the Surinam Sranan word for Chinese)
OOOh ohohoh
can they listen to some rastafarian calypso number . in sneysish
they will love that
not the same version as the Gilette commercial
the other one, please

attension of Papillon
Steve McQueen did time on Île du Diable.
Same same, Papillon could have had a ball in plenty Creole areas in the top of South America, provided he switched to rum as well.
e.g. Surinam, or the neighbor Guyana (for some reason, Guyana chicks continue to bug me on the web)
PC can sod off, plenty tofu areas for him to choose from.

It is a possibly positive effect of the presence of the english language, not necessarily of the presence of the English.
The presence of the English and other colonial powers in Africa has had largely negative results.
Not least because none of the national borders are where they should be.

I hope they won't and I hope they will learn from the mistakes
Roman Empire made. Otherwise, into the oblivion.
This is one of the most unintelligible discussions about the English language that I have ever read.
Does anyone else feel the irony?

Hi and i think you could be very right.
But still i understand that former Colonies have a big respect for their Colonizer.
If this can be confirmed this must mean something.
I guess that the relations between UK and former British colonies are good nowadays.
