on the attached pics you will see an example for a very stable cabinet (outer size in cm: 220x154x64) for 2x Focal "Audiom 15 ax" with a volume of approximately 1500 liter. Additional there are two diagrams with different kind of vented area (first long and small, second more close to square proportions as to see at the images (585x415 mm)
The enclosure was realized with beech multiplex (25 mm thickness and 11 layers).
Inside of the enclosure there was performed a closely braced. Due this step has been reached a negligible parasitic sound radiation at the cabinet walls.
I don't know commercial available subwoofers, where offers such a clean and tight bass transmission down to the lowest registers.

Hi tiefbassuebertr,
I visited (googletranslated) your site 🙂.
Havn't you compare you boxes with infinite baffle?
(Obviously that compact 😛 0.5-1-2 m^3 boxes are more affordable in many cases and some more effective at VLF than IB)

I don't understand this term: "IB" resp. "infinite baffle".Hi tiefbassuebertr,

Read follow and let me know, what for you means this term:
The term is often and erroneously used of sealed enclosures which cannot exhibit infinite-baffle behavior unless their internal volume is much greater than the Vas Thiele/Small of the drive unit AND the front baffle dimensions are ideally several wavelengths of the lowest output frequency. It is important to distinguish between genuine infinite-baffle topology and so-called infinite-baffle or IB “enclosures” which may not meet genuine infinite-baffle criteria. The distinction becomes important when interpreting textbook usage of the term.
The only commercial product closest to this diy project I know is David Wilson's "WHOW" (early Version) - go to post #13 about
Large passive subwoofers? - AudioKarma.org Home Audio Stereo Discussion Forums or
Wilson Audio Celebrates 40 Years! - Page 6
Which other products was available in the last years yet more similar to this diy project - particularly in respect to the weight ?
I ask this, because several other music lower wants to be the new owners, but before this is to realize, the right version for the transport for the cabinet from post #1 (include the bring down and up from the balcony to the first floor) and the whole costs for transport must be established (usual shipping isn't possible). To find out the best transport solution and transport company I will ask by commercial loudspeaker companies, which offer subwoofers with such heavy weight subwoofer cabinets.
Thank you very much for advices.

the offer of a big subwoofer is still present - unfortunately only of interest for music lovers in this area (Germany and France) due the heavy wight of cabinet:

Who know, where are to download the genuine datasheet of Focal's Audiom 15 cx (15 CX2) ?
Maybe a successor of Audiom 15AX ?
In the meantime, the enclosure, realized with beech multiplex, are sold.
But both transducers (2x Focal "Audiom 15 ax") still available include both genuine packages from Focal.

That woofer (15ax) has basically 2.5mm overhang (traditional def for xmax), might actually be able to manage 5mm Xmag.
Poor value for subwoofer duty if SPL is any concern. here it is in a 750L box tuned to 20.

Yes, for high pressure level the showed subwoofer with Audiom 15ax was not suitable. OTOH - the music reproduction at low level was very clean and tight down to the lowest register. That was the main target and main purpose here.
In the atachment the data sheet:Who know, where are to download the genuine datasheet of Focal's Audiom 15 cx (15 CX2) ?

(Dare I say the pioneers') 10x Vas is close enough WRT phase/group delay ~ = for design purposes.I don't understand this term: "IB" resp. "infinite baffle".
for new projects in this kind there is available a good replacement from SB Acoustics for the no longer available Focal Audiom 15ax - go to post #2 (first URL) under

Thanks for posting the above, will have a look at this driver as I am considering a similar massive subwoofer build, I am at the very early planning stages with my project
Thanks
Simon
