Guys are always looking for good tube kits.
Has anyone any experience of this one ?
World Designs KT88
The hype looks pretty good and the price is not too bad if the iron is as good as they claim it to be.

World Designs were, I think, originally the kit supplier which grew out of Hi-Fi World magazine - although there may have been a restructuring or change of ownership since then. Perhaps unsurprising that HFW likes the kit?
HFW used to have a DIY supplement.

I suspect that the kit is no longer avaliable, certainly at that price.
The World design kits were well thought out and supplied with acceptable but not boutique components. The output transformers were sourced in the UK and were ok but limited due to having to control the retail price to keep the kits attractive.
The thought from those that did invest in high quality iron was that they got an improvement, but not enough to warrent the cost.

I've a funny feeling that the valve amps wouldn't have the required drive for the B&W's
While nominally 8 Ω, the impedance dips as low as 3 Ω. You have to connect the 803s to 4 Ω speaker taps and derate the claimed sensitivity to 87 dB. Build something using Williamson style circuitry and KT88 "finals". Something along the lines of the Heath W6M (schematic uploaded) would do, nicely. However, please steer clear of the non-linear 12AU7/ECC82.
If you have time, peruse this AA thread, where the W6M was "dissected".

I don't like HiFi collective, they are very overpriced and the components are available cheaper on-line
Mullard style circuitry is somewhat simpler than Williamson style.
"Steal" the small signal circuitry from a H/K Cit. 5, using a 6CL6 as the voltage amplifier. Use a 10M45S CCS to load the LTP's tail, instead of a resistor.
Graft the 12BH7/KT88 Class "AB2" O/P setup, from the W6M, onto the split phases. Yes, the Class "AB2" setup is more complicated than a "routine" PP pair. However, you gain increased power O/P and immunity to blocking distortion.
