HBO existed in the late 70's. It was called Home Box Office then and was only on from 4 PM until 2 AM, although there were few built out cable systems to carry it. There was the "Private Channel Club" in downtown Miami that broadcast HBO on 2.15 GHz and charged $20 per month for the equipment to receive it.
Being an RF engineer allowed me to figure out how I could "monitor the microwave energy that fell on my property 40 miles away." Showtime appeared around 1980, about the same time that HBO went to a 24 hour format. MTV appeared in late 81. By then I had a 12 foot DIY satellite dish to monitor the activities in the Orange Bowl on Sunday afternoons that did not appear on local TV.
Only if your dog is named "Dust." I have been to more than one Kansas concert, and some controlled substances might have been consumed.
When was it when they had those 18-20" parabolic....with that half wave dipole on that long chunk of PCB?(Open the cheap plastic casing). While in school, one of the ideas for our final "project", while in Process controls, I cooked up an idea to create an on demand RF powered Water heater. I found some beautiful stainless chunk of TE-10 waveguide. At 2.45G is was just about right. So I gutted the Oven to get to the Magnetron. We has set it up to irradiate a known quantity of H2O so we could get a heating rate...as maximum power. The trick I couldn't get down was how to change..., run the tube on a duty cycle.
Too much, to soon...so we fell to our default, load a motor from X rpm to a lower rpm, & add voltage to compensate. Then there was damping to consider. Damn thing worked just fine. DC motors, no prob.
Then there was the Collinear array. The numbers came out that it would look really cool on the trunklid.

Cute.
I watched Dr Nutt last night, his interview with Howard Marks and the New Zealand presentation. Of course it is enlightening, but sad too.
Funny that a psych Dr is name Nutt 🙂 He is a fine Dr, I wish many Dr's would be as straight forward and well informed/experienced as he is.
Like OS states, many Dr's are just pill pushers these days.
To sum it all up, the world is not a kind place and people's opinions get in the way of logic and facts.
Cheers folks
Like me taking my bat to break all your kneecaps in the morning (for a fee).
In the evening , I perform knee reconstruction (for a fee).
Causing known intentional harm then offering the services required to
remedy that harm. This is happening to one in my family , it all legal ...
and I feel helpless to stop it .🙁
Doctors and this system , I fear ... have been compromised beyond
"fixing" (legal criminality).
Smoking the weed would be very minor in comparison , wish this
was an option here. I like the free market system , unless it
causes harm to good people - girls gone wild = capitalism gone wild.
I need a joint now ... but (weed = prison) here. 😱

i'd be movin to colorado 🙂 is there a song with this phase in it, john denver perhaps 🙂I need a joint now ... but (weed = prison) here.
sorry, i wish i could help you with the move and a few brownies.
you live in "Smoky Mountains" and they throw you in jail for smoking = wtf
Funny!! Mom(85yo) the other day suggested she would like to try a puff, i was floored. mom had 3 hip surgeries last year and gets pain, they presc. T3's, she don't like them, they make her head spin. mom will be prescribed brownies, she has a little copd (she never smoked but dad did), smoke/vap is not a good thing for her.

My Dad was 70 when he tried pot the first time. Like your mother, he was dealing with pain (knee replacements, arthritic shoulders and back, etc.) and not eager to keep popping pills. I brought over my Arizer V-Tower and some of BC's finest. After 3 days, he called me and said "Order me one of these things".
Vaping might aggravate COPD, but eating it might be a bit too much of a body buzz for your mom. Either way, best of luck to you both.
I agree, maybe just a bite or two, to start off with. mom has balance issues, thus a walker, the last thing we need is another fall. i prefer not to eat it either, because of the "couch lock effect". but if i am sick in bed, it is great meds.but eating it might be a bit too much of a body buzz for your mom.
my gf on the other hand loves the brownies, does not like the smoke, even though she smoke cigs = go figure. last time she had a hit with a few drinks in her, it was the ceramic bath floor and porcelain express, she learned her lesson, skunked 🙂

Me see happy dog now too.
She's a very happy dog. LOVES having her face in the wind. Almost as much as she likes curling up to sleep in the snow.

I find the problem with eating it is that it is difficult to get the dosage right not least because of the 3/4 to 1 1/2 hour delay in the effects.
It'll need some practice and a reliable supply.
Funny thing: My mum really liked the smoke of cannabis and good cigars yet really hated cigarette smoke. She never smoked herself.
Now that's great. Pure Tubelab.Being an RF engineer allowed me to figure out how I could "monitor the microwave energy that fell on my property 40 miles away."
Back about that time I had to "bust" a less ambitious fellow. There was a leaky cable TV tap in his back yard that he was pirating. How did we know? He had a wide band TV antenna about 10 feet away pointed right at it. 🙂 Hey, we were broadcasting, he was just picking it up. Basically legal.
I was sad to have to replace the tap and cut the guy off. We all admired him.
= tincture 🙂 which is something that I have never tried, yet 🙂. To make it one needs high poof ethanol, which is hard to get here, some 151 rum will do. but I am not too sure if i like the alcohol component. From what i read alll you need is a dropper full in a glass of water, that can not be too much alcohol. Special cough syrup in the making.3/4 to 1 1/2 hour delay in the effects.
jesus holy anointing oil a day keeps the dr away!! see you can be creative on thc. LOL

If you want to avoid the alcohol in the tincture, just do oil.

Listening to Polytown. Great album!!! One might enjoy Michael Manring "Book of Flame" and Trey Gunn "One Thousand Years" if journeying these horizons. Steve Tibbitts "Exploded View", "Big Map Idea" and "The Fall of Us All" also might find rotation. Richard Johnson / Jud Martindale "Creatures of Habit" also would be in the mood.
Todd Rudgren "Initiation" makes me wish I had high frequency hearing, something I have lacked at least since 6th grade. I blame firecrackers and heredity. Reminds one of "I", does it not?
For some incredible Bozzio drumming, "The Black Page" and "The Black Page (Easy Teenage New York) on Zappa's Live in New York album are pretty incredible. I've seen Bozzio play, in a band with his sister. "Missing Persons", I think.

We loved the couple albums by The Dukes Of Stratosphere (aka XTC) when reality was altered.

Yeah, my buddy has a Great Pyrenees named Chloe that is also a sweet dog. They are pretty amazing in many ways, starting with sheer hugeness!

XTC was fun as XTC, as well. I have a friend that was/is seriously into XTC. Yet another great concert! "Making Plans For Nigel" and "No Guns In Our House" spring to mind.
Dammit guys, I'm supposed to be working now! 🙂 Oh well. Got a thermal intermittent here anyway, might as well chat while waiting for it to temp cycle, heh.
Glad you liked it. I listened to it for the first time in awhile the other night It gets a bit noodly at times, but Bozzio's big distant kick drums are nicely unsettling.
That was Dale, his wife! (Two words: Google Images) And yeah, I've been a fan of his ever since the second U.K. album. Love Missing Persons, one of the best bands of the 80s. I got to meet Terry years ago at a drum clinic, & talk awhile. For someone as immensely talented as he is, he's really a nice, humble guy.

XTC were frriigin' grrreet!! Really digging the Steve Wilson 5.1 mixes. Wish they'd leave him alone in a room with Oranges & Lemons for awhile.XTC was fun as XTC, as well. OK, time to turn this thing back on & see if I can go home yet.

When was it when they had those 18-20" parabolic....
I built mine in 1978. I had a 24 inch reflector for the local channel and a 48 inch surplus reflector for the Miami TX that was 40 miles away. Both used a coffee cam for the feedhorn with a 1/4 wave probe mounted on a BNC connector in the side. Teflon coax routed the signal to an LNA and mixer of my own design.
There was a leaky cable TV tap in his back yard that he was pirating. How did we know? He had a wide band TV antenna about 10 feet away pointed right at it.
I lived in a rental triplex before I moved into my house in 1978. That neighborhood had cable. The line amp was in a green metal box on the ground in my back yard. I had a 50 foot piece of coax cable with an alligator clip on the end. I worked 2nd shift and usually got home at about 1 AM. I would walk outside and connect the alligator clip to a screw on the case and just reel in the cable when I went to bed. That was in the days of 36 channel unscrambled systems. Unfortunately the local PD transmitter was 2 blocks away and transmitted on a frequency that took out the TV channel that played Dr Who at 2 AM.
Listening to Polytown. Great album!!!
Check out Bozzio Levin Stevens "Black Light Syndrome" It is similar, but different. The song "Duende" is one of my amp / speaker torture tests. Their second album, Situation Dangerous is also very good. Well played technical music.
