Dear all,
After many years of satisfaction and enjoyment, I found an opportunity to upgrade my system.
I started with the replacement of my 1505B driver, a 291-16A, with a Yamaha 6681B. Amazed by the result, I started to study a bit more about Yamaha loudspeakers and I found that the 15 inch 3882 could be an excellent bass loudspeaker for a front loaded horn like the VOT.
Finally, I discovered this bass cabinet, the S6215, with two 3882 and more a less the size of my A5. They were in LA and I found a way to get them shipped to Europe. So all loudspeakers are Yamaha, including the excellent tweeter 4281B. Only the 1505B is still Altec.
The result is just outstanding... I am using a passive crossover and Jriver for small EQ adjustments.

I love your room layout. It looks like a very comfy place to listen to music (on a great system). Shall I bring the beer and a few records?

Dear David,
If you could bring some Sam Adams (my wife's favorite beer), you are mor than welcome !

Hi!
Nice to read you here, Dominique.
I guess you're very happy with those new bass-mid... and it's quite a "wall of fame" for Yamaha's speakers we enjoy.
Cologne is a little bit far for me, less than David, certainly, but why not meeting with enthusiasts?
Regards,
François

Dear Dominique,
Thank you for this invitation. One day, maybe, who knows... I will be happy to hear them and have some exchanges about our passions... (sound, hi-fi and DIY, not beers...although)...

Does anyone out there have some plans for the Yamaha s6215 cabinet?
Have searched with no success..

I had the same cabinets and horns but my 1505 horns had 2 288 compression drivers on each horn and the 515 woofers. I loved that set up but ended up putting a Byma 25 horn tweeter on top of the cabinets and under the horns.
Absolutely with you on the 6681B! Enjoying them as I write...they play beautifully with the GPA 416-8B Classic Series woofers in the "Beyond the Ariel" speakers. Very interesting about the 3882...thank you for sharing!

Hi Gary,
Do you prefer the Yamaha 6681B drivers to the Radian 745 Neo Be you have used previously?
Thanks!
Best regards

Yes, definitely. Used with the Azura AH-425, the 6681B is flat with no eq needed in the crossover. My best efforts with the 745NeoBe didn’t ever reach the degree of naturalness that I get with the Yamahas.

Hi!
I have just a question about the mounting height of the multicell horn. It seems very high above the listening plane. What does this mean for the sound stage image? Would you please describe if the sound stage moves towards the ceiling? I have currently a similar challenge to place the horn at about 125 cm.

Not to speak for someone else but because they are multicell and not sectoral, the positioning of the horns is very forgiving.I have just a question about the mounting height of the multicell horn.

Fantastic system you have there. However, I'm always skeptical when I see a tweeter hanging in the back like this. I know WHY it's there; it just seems to me it is here blocked by the Altec horn, and by the top of the bass cabinet, with only a smallish window to fire trough. How much treble actually reaches your ears versus all that is bouncing around and / or shadowed by those massive obstacles? Please don't take it bad, I'm just trying to learn, maybe there's something I overlooked, or maybe it just works fine the way it is. In my system I prefer the tweeter not time-aligned but with a "boundary free" output. But then my midrange horn is very shallow compared to yours so it won't matter as much probably.
Hi Gary, glad that you found lasting happiness with the 6681B/425 combo. That driver continues to remain a favorite with many such as this group who are committed to cloning its discontinued diaphragm.Yes, definitely. It would be wonderful if more could spare time sharing ideas with them on how to clone those beryllium "fingers" as their physical composition, shape and integration with the rest of the diaphragm are critical to this driver's sonic character. But upon a successful final design, there would likely be ample demand for an OEM geared for small runs to sell two or more pairs per user.
Of course, adequate room and proper placement might preclude such experimentation, but have you ever speculated on how the 745Be might sound if it were used with a different horn, say https://www.athosaudio.com/2021/01/01/tad-th-4001/ ? And how might the proper geometry of the throat adapter reduce any incidence of standing waves or other problems?
