Funniest snake oil theories

After two bottles of scotch, I settle for any post.

(had to give my wild alcohol days speech again last night, after a 15-year old was carried in unconscious at 3am. Type female, 5ft nothing, size anorexic, hadn't eaten supper before booze. Checked out after 3 glasses of mixed whisky)

Shakin' all over

Hello.
I wanted to hear if upgrading the coupling and snubber caps in a preamp would result in better sound than the cheap looking tiny stock caps in this chinese 12au7 based unit.
It did, but I noticed a ringing noise coming from my speakers, and traced this to the vacuum caps I bypassed the coupling and snubber caps with.
Seems odd that even when the music system is not played, but on, even a tv's speakers playing the news could set off the ringing.
Foam adhesive weatherstripping applied to the glass was enough to stop the clinking/ringing noises, but it has me wondering now about some companies vibration damping boxes applied to speaker wire.
Does anyone here think speaker vibration can be introduced into an amp via its cabling, causing an audible noise or distortion?
If so, would applying a bit of silicone, or perhaps sorbothane, on the leads connecting the binding posts to the PC board , be enough to clamp down the vibrations to an inaudible lower resonance?
Experience with this, anyone?
Included is a pic of the caps' umbilicaled upgrade , and yes, with the foam isolating the glass caps, and damping them slightly, my preamp sounds better than stock.

My policy is that everything is locked 100% solidly in place, or if this is not possible then any relative movement is heavily damped - the sorbothane thing. The only things that should vibrate to their heart's content are the driver diaphragms - I only hear improvements when I stop anything in the system which naturally tends to wobble.

A list of companies we cannot mention would be nice...as there have been a couple of times when my posts have not appeared for long and I suspect certain people are off limits for this thread🙂 Which sort of negates the point of this thread, but it seems some people get techy about their snake oil being identified as such.....

Any theory on how this cable gives 30% faster charging??
Jan, read what it says. "Up to 30%" surely includes 0%?

I suspect that company lawyers might object to their company appearing on such a list as it could be interpreted as suggesting that they have something to hide. Perhaps a list of companies who have shown that they are mature enough to take fair criticism on the chin and either ignore it or respond sensibly to it?

Really, that's upsetting. If I thought questioning pseudo-scientific claims was censored I would probably ask for my account to be disabled.

Interesting.
So mods, are there names that must not be mentioned, on this thread or other threads ?.

Dan.
