Hello People,
I finally finished 2015's project, a 3 way horn based speaker for small parties and also for domestic use.
Here in Brazil I could not find a 3 way quality Speakers , so I decided do built one.
In 2013 I build the Bob Crites Cornscala, with great sucess. I liked the design so much that i decided to build a similar one (a little bit smaller) using the same mid and high drivers. The wooffer , i opted for a Jbl pro audio model.
As I could not build a crossover, i tri-amped it.
For digital music files:
1. Use Jrivers internal crossover
2. Use audiolense xo files into Jriver
For live band:
Use Dbx driverack.
I poster some photos.
I need some recomendation to replace the woofers, as i think it is the weakest link.
I need a pro audio model, but with good audio quality.
Any help will be wellcome.
Thanks
Antonio

Hi Turk,
I made these Speakers based on my 2013 project, Bob Crites Cornscala.
I liked the Cornscala so much that decided to build a Similar Speaker.
I use both in my Beach House, but I was afraid to use the Cornscala for Parties (it could blow it), so I built this one that is like a Pro Audio version , a little bit smaller, carpet covered.
I used the same Mid and HF drivers, JBL Selenium D405 pfenolic mid driver and the D220ti for Hf.
Also, there is no Passive Crossovers, as I use Active Crossovers and 3 external power amps (Jriver built in crossover for digital music and DBX Driverack for live band).
(I also use AudioLense XO/Feq Correction File in Jriver)
I choosed JBL Selenium 15pw7 Pro audio woofer. When I compare it to the Eminence Based Woofer (in Cornscala) Bob Crites sold me, the Eminence is much better.
I do not know, maybe the Eminence Woofer is for Hifi use, so would be better sounding.
I need help to find a Woofer that is good for both Pro Audio and Hifi aplications (Powerfull and Good sounding). Are there such thing?
Thanks
Antonio

Eminence is the way to go.it might surprise you to discover that a lot of Pro product is loaded with Eminence.
i dislike the attitude that because it's PRO it's not HI FI or vice versa some drivers can indeed be both while others are neither. i understand there is a distinction between the two but i guess for me i dislike anything that causes people to approach a design problem with that kind of thinking.
that being said, sorry i won't make any suggestions as to potential driver choices as i'm still not sure what you disliked about the Selenium as compared to the Eminence.
let's not forget the cornscala was "designed" with the eminence in mind so changing the driver and expecting the same or better performance without redesigning or modifying the box is kind of like wondering why the piston from an 8 cylinder engine won't work in a 6 cylinder engine.

which JBL drivers do you currently have?
and why do you think they're the weak link?
JBL , or to be more precise, Harman International, the parent company, bought Selenium a couple years ago and legally relabelled all old Selenium product as JBL.
Letters on a label don't make a speaker sound better ... or worse 😉 ... but they sure help sales to some people.
That said, Seleniums are good middle of the road speakers, often with good bang for the buck, but there are better.
Specially the "real" JBL and, no doubt, some of the "better" Eminence who have really been cleaning their act in the last years 🙂
