Hello All:
I have a Kenwood DP-990SG CD, but the laser pickup is hardly read most disc, but this model laser head is discontinued and hard to find. But I found TAOHS-KP1 and TAOHS-JP3 in the market with resonaable price, my question is:
is possible use TAOHS-KP1 or TAOHS-JP3 to replace J91-0341?
Any information will be appreciate.

I know the fault with this player very well...there is a very good chance the laser is o.k..
.remove the grease from the tracking motor (remove bottom plate, iso alcohol or or cd cleaner and a little brush) ...sound will gain tremendously and skipping will be gone with 99% of all cd`s..get this grease (http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digit...ml#post4048550) and it will further improve..
regards Philipp

Thanks a lot for your help, it's worth a try.
Today I opened the cover of my DP-990SG, I found a PCB near of laser head, I believe it's laser pickup circuit, there are four variable resistor that is FG(VR1) TG(VR2) F BAL(VR4) T BAL(VR3), and two test PIN is G and RF, does anyone tell me what does them mean? I have a digital meter and a 40MHz analog oscilloscope, can I adjust these pot to improve my CD read ability?
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Hi Philipp, just now I use your method - using 99% alcohol to cleaned the laser head (lens) and tracking motor, There is a little improvement, few old and worn CD can be read, their even can't be recognized before, but many track still can't play normal, even this CD can play smooth in my other CD.
But it works, so I still looking for a laser pickup replacement, or some adjust method of this vintage CD. Anyway, thanks for your helpful information.
Regards.

Hi Sunjar,
clean with care the white tooth wheels of the tracking motor and the little black plastic part with a spring inside, this part can be removed..drown it in iso and brush every tooth...all the old grease must be removed !!..you can turn the motor spindle by hand and press a brush against it ...in the end also clean the two polished rods...I did this five times now (+ new grease)..these modells will refuse reading any cd because of sticky old grease..the drawer will also refuse to open (same procedure, look at he white tooth wheel) but more easy..good luck..
