I am in the process of researching to build a rather compact/semi-lightweight mobile PA system that digs super deep, but I'm new to the HF driver arena so it's throwing me for a loop for the HF. Hoping to get some input here.
Budget is around 1500 for speakers, I will be building the bass cabinet myself.
Right now I am looking at things mostly from FaitalPRO, but I am open to anything that achieves my goal.
LF
FaitalPRO 15HP1060 15" 4ohm
7cu/ft bass reflex cabinet tuned to my liking (35hz)
this meets my space, F3, SPL, and power handling requirements
crossed over at 900hz - 1.2khz to
HF
FaitalPRO HF144 compression driver
w/ P.Audio 2380 horn (JBL 2380a knockoff)
I have been researching my butt off, but I am having difficulty figuring out whether this is a good HF/LF match. It will primarily be used outdoors so dispersion and throw is something I am looking at... short/medium throw with deep digging bass in a simple two way system.
I've built a few of jbell's stadiumhorns in the past with great success, but still have much to learn about HF horns. Any and all help/suggestions are appreciated, even if you think I am a moron for wanting to do it this way 😛 🙂

Yeah that could work... it'll be relatively fulrange but you lose lowend the more you put the speakers up in the air and you need to get them up over peoples heads so it's a bit of a catch 22..
The other thing is.. a bigger comp driver like this is a bit wasted with only 1 other driver to keep up with, I'm working on a dual 15+2" setup and I still got to pad the CD down 6db. Now that is a big heavy box.. baltic birch with 3 large ceramic drivers in it.. thank budda it's got wheels on it, I certainly wouldn't want to try and hoist that up in the air by myself. But I digress.
Back in the day I had a DJ system that consisted of four big 15 3-way boxes and it sounded great, but music didn't have the lowend it has now so I'm not sure the same setup would still be adequate, but as usual it depends what your expectations are.
So what am I saying? I think I'm saying my idea of a portable PA these days includes a dedicated sub that will always live on the ground and tops are smaller and lighter like a 12+1 or dual 10+1, it's not quite as tidy as a 2 box solution but it'll produce better sound.

Well I am on a bit of a time crunch so here goes, went ahead and ordered my components.
I ordered two CD's and two sub drivers. In the future I think I shall add a couple of 12" midbass FLH's as well so I can run my stadiumhorns next to this box and have one gigantic and very deep sounding rig. Hopefully the two CD's will be enough to handle the HF for everything 🙂
Wish me luck on the build! I think you might crack up when you see where this is going 😉

Confused. If you have and were planing to use dedicated subs all along why are you building a fullrange box to use with it?
The 2way needs to be independent for the most part. The option to combine everything I have in unison is just that: an option. Hope that makes sense
I just looked that up.. yeah it's a pretty big box isn't it, but some well placed wheels would make moving them a lot easier. You're definitely stretching the term portable here but probably no more than I am with my double 15 setup, I still haven't decided what subs I'm gonna use with them but undoubtedly they will be a horn or TH of some type.Out of all the things a stadiumhorn is, mobile is the least thing 😉

HF144 is 1.4", 2380 is 2".. 😉
