Not necessarily. Older designs with passive type controls can use log types. If its modern opamp based they will be linear. If you have the old ones then just set them mid point and measure the wiper to each end. If they are about equal they are linear, if they are totally different then they are some type of log law.

Yeah there old ones and measure equal each way,so linear it is then?

OK,thanks mate I thought Id better check just in case I got the wrong one. Isn't this internet amazing,Im 60+ and never would have dreamed I could do something like this.

It sure is. I used to cycle a 35 miles round trip just to get a few BC108's and bits and bobs. Finding data on parts was a mystery. Now you just click and order, and look up whatever technical specs you want. It is mind blowing... and we and just accept it.

Don't worry,I never take it for granted, there's no way I could have done electronics at all really, just about everything I know about the subject came from DIY Audio & AK forums.

Sometimes a letter code is printed on the pot just after the value.

100k A = audio or log taper
100k B = linear taper
100k C = anti-log (reverse log) taper
100k H = half taper (typically used as a balance control)
100k N = no idea??? (I don't recall) 😀
100k W = ?

There are others...
These are Asian/American codes. European and Vishay codes differ.
