Many are aware of #1's covers by Rod Stewart or Sheryl Crow (both versions later and bigger than the artists listed).
The Eagles released TIE first, and it's never been surpassed. That was my only point.

Actually, the Isley Bros has a big hit with Twist And Shout. That is why the Beatles originally played it at their gigs and eventually recorded it ...... it was a well known, well liked song.

In the US the Isley Bros version reached #17 on the the US charts and the Beatles reached #2. I took that to mean a bigger hit for the Beatles.

In Australia the Beatles version was the only one I remember being played on the radio. I don't think the Isley Bros version rated at all.

That's the problem with a topic like this - it depends where you live
