Hi All diy buddies,

I am new in this form, this is my first post,i want to know, is there any chip amp that sound quality is comparable to class a amp, i know class a sounds incredible but i wants to build a cheap IC amp [15 Watts to 50 Watts] that gives good sound quality.
If you have compared IC amp with class a [in sound quality] then please mention.

thanks,

Moved to chip amps forum 🙂

Class A in itself is no guarantee of good or great sound quality and brings with it its own problems such as heat and power consumption and (comparatively) low available power outputs.

I would suggest you look at some of the LM3886 designs as an example of a good chip amp.

CCS loading is indeed a way to move the sound of a classB towards A. I reckon this has more to do with reducing the power supply noise than in reducing crossover distortion as a similar effect can be had by adding more caps across the supply.

I have experience with a tk2050 tripath amp that had good caps, a big smps and it sounded good. I built a pass f5 and it sounded better. Every aspect is better with the exception of electricity usage and size.

The chip amp stuff is good. Better than most of the mid level stuff out there....but the f5 was clearly at a different level.

The chipamp stuff is easy to put together and cheaper...but when it all adds up its not that much cheaper...especially if you make the case.

Also, there is a hardness or falseness to the bass i did not like with the tripath amps...it was big and bold but kind of artificial. Also, it was. Sensitive to emi or rfi.

resistor summed parallel power chip amps can be biased with a spreader V to force push-pull Class A operation - with the full power dissipation required for Class A

Self patented his "Class XD" power output bias add on idea

and feedforward error correction like Quad's "current dumping" could be added to regular (or biased) chip amp output

If you dont have very fine speakers than dont even think of class A.
I used class A as headphone amp and for few months as stereo amp...
It sounds better than many other amp ive had so far, Ive had all those TI's best chip amps
and few discrete designs but still theres so many amplifiers out there...
If there was a single chip class A amplifier Id try it out 🙂
