Help me identify this 15" bass driver

Hello everybody!

I just got 2 x 15" bass drivers with no information on them. So I thought one of you might be able to help me out. I know it is a long shot....

They measure 6,0 Ohm DC

One of the numbers is the serial number, the other is the date of production.

Those are from Transparence (TR) in Canada. I'm not sure which model, but I'm sure that they could help you on that.

For what it's worth, they make very high quality drivers to very tight tolerances and machine steel in-house etc. I also saw them on the show "how it's made".

My old colleague who worked at at SLS Audio used them in a number of their professional speaker designs.

Hi Martin,

I believe your speaker is the RCF "L15-P300" (now discontinued), and considered a very good driver because of it's sensitivity, parameters and overall flexability. The one shown below is an 18", but will be very close to yours just for referential purposes; see IMG of driver here, and T/S parameters below: http://mainkas.tripod.com/page/audio/allmighty/img/rcf.jpg

PS: The driver in the spec sheet may look a little different than yours (due to some cosmetic changes that were made in later yrs), but still maintained the same parameters; may also be the RCF model "L15-P540", both very close, hope this helps!

You could be right. In any case, the OP can gather any numbers off of the back of the cone, magnet assm. or the frame, and send it to "Orange cnty recone" (or other recone specialist), and they should be able to give him the t/s par; I'm sure they'd use that info if he needed a recone?!

Not true. Not only will there be different numeric designations by manufacturer, many will be proprietary (not published) and the cone assembly is only half the equation when it comes to t/s parameters.

Even for JBL I bet most reconers wouldn't have the t/s parameters based on cone id.

My point was that these "recone guys" are still restoring discontinued speakers like the 'CV L-187-3', whose specifications were never made available to the public, in the 60's or to this day, but are somehow restored to Cerwin Vega factory specification. There must be a way to 'build/spec' these kits with minimal info on file.
