Valve preamp for bass guitar

Thank's, but I forgot to mention that 18 volts is DC..
And I would not make another power supply, but what kind of valve tube is operable with only 18 volts DC ?
Or what transistor as a "tube sounding" for preamp ?

Do not laugh !! Ugly, but it's work (for me)..

The Alembic F2-B schematic, which is based on the Fender bassman, has become somewhat of a favorite for a relatively simple yet very effective DIY bass project. Google will provide loads of schematics. It utilizes the famous 12AX7 (ECC83), has a classic fender type 3-band tone control, and sounds good. If the gain is too much, you can lose the cathode bypass caps. And the bright-switch is offcourse optional (I don't like it).

Hi,
Thank's all..
ECC82 is easy to found, and schematic are very simple.
I study Merlin Blencowe article, and see what I can build.
Just last question, I discover J201 fet transistor, what difference at "listening" with ECC82 ?
Thank's.
Phil.

That's impossible to answer. Tubes are more non-linear than fets, distort in a different way and have usually higher (plate/drain) impedances to name but a few differences. How this translates to an audible signature is completely dependent on the surrounding components and design topology.

If you don't want to buy a transformer with a high voltage secondary you might just take a small one with the same secondary voltage as the one that you are already using and connect it secondary-to-secondary with your existing one (given that the existing one is beefy enough). Such that the new one is acting as a step-up transformer. I have done this once for a DIY bass preamp (which is mainly solid state with a valve front-end) as well .

The other thing is using voltage multiplier circuit.

IMO I wouldn't use a valve at 18 volts.

Charles

Hi Charles,
Thank's for the trick, I did not know this !
After reflection I wonder if a valve with 18 v was a good way for me ?
I have two bass guitar, one is active 4 strings, it's work well with my diy amp.
The other, diy 2 strings use a driver as mic :

On line input of hifi amp, it's work. But that the gain will be sufficient with a valve powered by 18 volts...
1 : build another box for valve with new power supply and bypass for active bass
2 : use a transistor in the same box with same power supply
In actual box amp, I can not add a new transformer !
It will be full with a simple ECC82..
Phil.
