Where to source ELNA SILMIC II 63v in UK?

Hello,

This is my first post here but I have been searching this forum for a long time.

After reading a post on this forum regarding upgrading of capacitors on the musical fidelity X-Can, I wanted to upgrade all of the Jamicon electrolytics on my Musical fidelity M1-DAC to Silmic II so I opened it up and made a list of all the values required including their physical measurements. It uses 17 x 10uF 63v caps and a few others.

After making the list I started searching for a supplier where I could source all the parts from but it seems that most of the suppliers don't keep the 63v range so it's either 50v which is lower than the current rating or 100v which makes the size too big to fit. The Silmic data sheet suggests that there is 63v range available but so far I have been unable to find it.

Can someone please help me find the 63v Silmics or suggest some similar caps for my project?

Thanks for the suggestion and the links ticktock, I have read them all in the last few days but I belong to the camp who can hear the difference between capacitors.

No offense to anyone but I am saying this only because I have experienced it myself. I have recapped all the dc power supply caps in two of my Nakamichi BX-300 decks, one with all Nichicon KA and the other with all Elna Cerafine except the three big values which are Nichicon FG and FW. When I listened to the decks after running them in for 50 hours each, I can blindly tell which deck is playing. The deck with all KAs has deep and pronounced bass and ok upper end with slight absence of the lower mid range while the deck with Cerafines hasn't got the same deep bass but it is quiet controlled and not overpowering as well as very detailed mids and highs (I think they are slightly pronounced).

So, back to my original question: where can I get the 63v Elna Silmics from? Or if someone has already recapped their M1-DAC then which capacitors have they used? Also, is it possible to go lower like 50v instead of 63v?

My guess is they bought a large pile of 63V caps for their power amps and are using them across the board in every product. So if you determine the max voltage in your gear, you can get away with much lower voltage caps.

PS. I like Elna Silmic II...

Could be that or maybe these Jamicons 63v are cheaper than most standard caps.

The only equipment I have with Silmics in is my Marantz CD player which sounds quite good and as yourself many others also like them so I thought why not use them in my DAC. After the recap I intend to roll the opamps too which are the N5532. But I will first let the caps burn in for 100 hours and listen to it with the 5532.

Don't get me wrong. I love Silmics too.
BTW, I'd rate them to be more like Nichicon KA than Cerafine.

Cool! KAs are definitely good for the LF but not quite there when it comes to the mids and highs, i could tell that there is something missing. Cerafines are better when it comes to the mids and highs as well as the clarity but to my ears the mids and highs are a bit pronounced. This is why I thought about trying the Silmics which may provide a more balanced but mellow sound (I have heard) as I feel that the M1-DAC sounds a little harsh on the HF in my system.
