Funniest snake oil theories

Clearly not. Nor are they aware of molecular kinetics, which govern what happens when one creates hot air and then waves one's hands.

Them's fightn' words Sy. Injuneerin's based on good ol' boy Newtonian physics with none of yer' new fangled fancy Einstein / Bohr crap. Tacoma was just due to damned Russkie commie infiltration into the design team.😎

One thing I now strongly suspect is that the more one opens the bandwith of a system, the more difficult is to produce an enjoyable coherent sound. As much as I hate to admit it, the most enjoyable system I have heard to date is my current bedroom system, wich consists of a Naim CD plater with Teddyreg into an Exposure XX super amp ( they made great amps then - how stereophile was able to to give the current crap 2012 model a class A rating is beyond comprehension) into Royd Sintra bookshelf speakers.

Since putting this combination together I have spent way over my budget on new music. It doesn't go loud, it doesn't go low and yet it gushes out music. My main system (which i won't go into) outclasses it in many dimensions, but yet doesn't give the same pleasure.
This is also the Aldi TV trick - do what's important right, and the other stuff is not such a big deal ...

Nice post, BTW ... 😉

originally posted by SY - It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.

So true, I fear our world is doomed........

Clemenceau said war was too important to be left to the generals. When he said that, 50 years ago, he might have been right. But today, war is too important to be left to politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids. 😱

I strangely love that post! ;-)

With the receipt of the last communication from Audyssey tech support, I can now say I have no doubt their consumer product is worse than snake oil. Snake oil usually does no harm. I can't comment on their "Pro" system. It may be wonderful.

Fact: They suggest the reason their eq insisted on a 10 DB boost, flat shelf across the sub range, was my sub was too powerful. ( No, it was actually boosting it when looking at the results page. I had to increase the gain on the amp and re-run the cal to let it come up to zero. )

Fact: They refused after three tries to respond to why Marantz said my sub and right surround were correctly in phase, but the Audyssey software said they were reversed with the NAD. This would cause several bad eq problems of course.

Fact: They refused to suggest why their software did not try to reduce the humps at 54 and 150 Hz in my room. I had no trouble killing the 54 Hz with my analog equalizer.

Instead of addressing why I may have had these issues, they say "read the FAQ", which I informed them the first time I had already done.

Many fine receivers and preamps have Audyssey in them. I don't condemn the rest of the stuff's performance. The press and forums seem to beat up companies for not including it. Rotel, Arcam, and Outlaw I know have been criticized. But just don't put any value on including Audyssey. NAD and Cambridge are just now putting it in. Maybe it is worth noting, all these companies at least try on the sound side and never have been known for extra features.

5 inch easily gets you down to 40 Hz, but you will need a number of them for some real spl.

You know what I meant. 😛

Oh, but wait! Audyssey measurements claim my computer desktop speakers I had as temporary surrounds should be crossed over at 40 Hz. They are based on the 3 inch Fountek 85's Never mind the in-box measured f3 is 110. I need to build an bit better pair using the 88's and a little better tweeter.
