I'm back after a long wait for my speakers to arrive. I got a pair of Polk Monitor 30 Series II.
I got an Indeeed TA2021. I used a PC power supply's 12v to power the amp. Galaxy Note 2 as source. mini plug to RCA. I just tested a few minutes ago. Now I have a problem. The Volume is too low, I have to turn the knob up to 45% to get decent loudness. What could be causing it? is it the power supply? could it be the speaker wire I'm using? its CAT6 UTP Solid Core twisted pairs.

The output from a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is too low. I had the exact same problem with my LG Optimus G. Try using a decent CD or DVD player.The Volume is too low, I have to turn the knob up to 45% to get decent loudness. What could be causing it?

Which rail did you tap your 12V from? The 17. 8A or 0.5A?No issue with my power supply?

Isn't 17.8A a bit too high? I don't even dare to exceed 5A with my Lepai.I believe it is on the 17.8A. Otherwise maybe it won't work at all. 🙂

You can always use a higher ampere rated PSU - as long as you're using the properly rated voltage for the device. The device will only draw what it needs to operate. Now, of course if there's a fault that would place a direct short inside the amp, then you might end-up with a pile of smok'n and molten electronic parts. 😱 18amp is a healthy amount of current and easily weld metal parts. But even that's highly unlikely. Most domestic US 15amp circuit breakers will pop the instant they see too much current - hopefully avoiding anything too disastrous! Just don't go poking around under the hood with a screw-driver with it plugged in. 🙂 Not sure what the ampere standard is in other parts of the world that might use the higher 220 voltage.
How are the little amps working out for you? I follow this thread to stay up on the little Lepai's.
🙂 I emailed Peter Cheung. the maker and the seller from eBay. He said the same thing as you Kopi, Note 2 source volume is too low. He did say though that the PSU is good.

For my part, I've been following T-Amp threads all over, and this is my first ever test and experience with my new set of speakers and the TA2021 amplifier, so I don't know what to expect since I don't have anything else to compare it to except my PC audio setup which has a 5.1 Logitech Z5300 and X-Fi Xtrememusic soundcard. The immediate difference I noticed was the depth of the imaging.
I presume they are fine. The amps had already been distributed to the village schools. We haven't return since July but will make a trip in February next year to survey.How are the little amps working out for you?

According to Tripath datasheet, the TA2021 chip will be able power up with just 5.5mA at 12V.I believe it is on the 17.8A. Otherwise maybe it won't work at all. 🙂

There were people who tested these small cap in parallel with larger one, they showed in order to make difference, the smaller cap need to be 20% value of the main cap, which in most case impractical. Lower value cap is for different purpose, mostly for EMI, not for filtering supplies.
You mean a 20% bypass cap can't be fitted because it's too big?
And you're saying that a small cap is only for filtering noise on the PSU?
I thought that the idea of a really small cap was to supply voltage for high-freq. transients that a BIG cap can't?

2. The latest version currently is "23082013PCB Rev C". You can only get them directly from the suppliers in China. I am not sure if eBay has them yet.

few months back. Call them and find out.
I would think that any other version on the
eBay might warrant a knock off - unless of course it
is someone affiliated with PE.
