SOIC-8 to DMP-8, has anybody done it?

Hi,

My Marantz UD7007 has DMP-8 opamp JRC4565 and I would like to replace it with SOIC-8 LM4562. I have not been able to find popular dual opamps on DMP-8 package.

DMP-8 and SOIC-8 are close but SOIC-8 is narrower so I am not sure if I can soder a SOIC-8 on the pads of a DMP-8.

Let me know if you have an answer.

Thanks and regards,
Bill

AFAIK, the LM4562 is not an ideal replacement for a JRC4565, which has a much higher output current rating and can drive low-Z headphones without hitting the current limit. LM6172 or THS4032 may work better.

I have soldered SOIC8 opamps as replacements for some wide-footprint JRCs, but it depends on the board layout.

Linux Guru,

Thanks for your information. Do you mean it depends on the board layout or it depends on the footprint / pads of the DMP-8.

I won't be able to see the pads until I remove the chip, and I haven't, just in case I cannot solder it.

But I guess from your experience the answer is a YES.

The LM4562 only drives a filter so I think it is OK. It is not for the output chip. It has lower noise and distortion comparing to LM6172. I want to use LM6172 for I/V stage but the LM4562 for filter. The LM6172's bandwidth may be too high for the noisy SMPS supply.

So OP275 -> LM6172, and JRC4565 -> LM4562.

Regards,
Bill
