We will continue drooling and promise never to have the wax removed from our ears. This is fortunate, as none of us are sufficiently wealthy to afford Bybee devices so it just as well that we will never hear well enough to need them. Never mind, we will struggle on with the awful sound produced by conventional non-military engineering and be grateful that we can hear anything at all.john curl said:You simply don't have enough invested in your hi fi playback to make this relatively expensive component, worthwhile.
It is like putting expensive tires on an inexpensive car that is not designed to take advantage of what the tires might actually be capable of improving. Why bother IF you do not have a performance car? I use stock tires on my Acura, but performance tires on my Porsche. Depends on the whether the 'upgrade' is worth it for both the vehicle and the way it is used.
It's the same with many of these tweaks. IF you are not performance oriented, and you can't or won't invest in a real quality hi fi system, then Bybees and many other tweaks are not for you, as they are just too expensive.

That first item listed on the sales sheet, Bybee Sucker, shouldn't that have been the owner's name who paid for all that? 😛
But said tires can be tested against an inferior version and data generated to prove the difference, no?
Even in my line of software testing, strange things happen, but until I can reproduce the bug with some regularity, no software programmer will buy what I'm selling.

Well there you have it, if you don't spend enough money then Bybee's won't perform as planned. They must have a built in nano/quantum/cryogenic based price sensor

It is a pretty funny name! '-)
Of course, just like autos, IF you can get the same performance, significantly cheaper, go for it, BUT if you have not tried a high performance item, then you have little grounds to criticize.
As I also am known to say: "Criticism, without examination, is Prejudice."

But does the examination contain well-founded research and data? I guess in some cases, from what as been discussed ad nauseum, the answer is 'no'.

I know the earth isn't flat, I know Bybee is full of it,I know all sorts of truths, so here is my own saying:
"Peddling BS without proof should be crime"
I guess we will have to go through life deprived of the Bybee magic. 😀
Not me, I'm a proud owner. Or I used to be until some mad scientist bent on reducing them to the molecular level commandeered them from me. I am hoping he will see his way to release them back into the peasant world for it is the one luxury in audio I can have as my own.
It would be nice to see the results of someone who reduced them to the molecular level, but I appear to have made more progress than anyone else, so far.
I would go along with two things:
If someone could completely analyze a Bybee and find it made ONLY of conventional materials that we use normally, and/or find it made of just a resistor, and that resistor is a conventional one, easily substituted by a catalog device.

Maybe being used as a wine cork by said very mad scientist?
You 'know' do you? What else do you 'know'?
I know you like to offer loads of subjective say so yet never show any objective proof. Sorry, but an old list of a system you and your cohort put together back in 2000 isn't anywhere close to proof.
It would be nice to see the results of someone who reduced them to the molecular level,
Ohhh, if only I had an oil well in my backyard. With money to burn, I would be so tempted to pay for this.

Which, as we all know, entails thorough oral and nasal examination.

It may turn out to be better than that synthetic one that one scientist created. 😀
I am afraid that would be one very small bottle of wine. You see, I am a humble soul and decided that humility was the best policy. I purchased the small, resistor sized, entry level units intended for series wiring in the speaker out circuit, post XO. I did not wish to purchase any model of greater significance for fear of having a system so advanced as to make some of you, who are so much more deserving than I, jealous.Maybe being used as a wine cork by said very mad scientist?
Sorry Jacco, I don't understand that air temperature was the point of your post. Thought you were talking about latitudes and directions around a globe.
Yes, refraction is well known to the Planists, they take that into account with their sightings. I have some interesting photos of refraction over water and have consulted experts in the field to bolster my knowledge of the effect (a little).
Refraction will cause an object to visually rise, sometimes by quite a lot. Knowing the air temp and relative humidity will help know how much refraction to expect. I took 2 thermometers with me to the Bedford level in order to estimate the refraction. Still - the claims of the Flat Earth camp take refraction into account. They claim to see objects that should be below the horizon, even with some lift via refraction (refraction only works so far.)
I found this difficult to duplicate. You need to be very sure of what you're looking at, its dimensions, distance and so forth.
But there are easier ways. Some involve lasers, some involve bridges. None involve Bybees directly, tho I have done observations from Bybee island.
