Does anyone know..
What was a Black cat cap made of?
Was it paper wax and tin foil or aluminium foil?
I'm assuming it wasn't mylar...

FWIW - The Angela website has some for sale, they say:
" CDE Black Cat molded tubular axial lead capacitors feature paper and Mylar dielectric with aluminum foil plates."
CDE Black Cat '60s New Old Stock Mylar & Foil Signal Capacitor, .0047uF/1600VDC
Maybe somebody can confirm this. 😎
Sam
I have a few old 'Black Cat' caps - I suppose I could carefully apply the appropriate diagnostic instrument to one (a hammer...)
Both paper and mylar versions were made. The earlier paper ones can become quite leaky over time as the housing tended to crack or otherwise allow moisture in.
There are much better coupling capacitors made today, the guitar amp crowd like vintage caps for their colorations which IMO have no place in hifi.

Or list them on eBay at an outrageous price! 😀
