Nice project bdw. tons of iron 😀
Thans for your nice comments.
Unfortunately, the guys here have driven me crazy! I currently use 6 iron pieces per stage per channel, but chances are I will need 2 more, that makes 8 irons per stage, 16 per channel, make a total of 32 irons per stereo pair! Others are single c cores, others double and others quadrable c core transformers. Hand made all of them by myself, with hand made paper coil formers. All trannies are 100% unlacquered and 100% unpotted. I do not like lacquering and potting, it affects the sound quality considerably!
It is a bit crazy, but believe me, it makes the difference!
mumble mumble .... my bitches brew amp has ... mumble mumble ... 4+4+3+3+4 pieces of iron (per channel). umpf, I win!
i do prefer L-input PSU filters as well.

nice amp
Mate hello If you like ac so much would it be possible to use ac on the driver and use it to cancel the output tube ripple. Probably not but I believe Steve bench has a method on his site to cancel ac hum with 801a tube. Have you found and differences in tone between brands?

Hi there!
Finally I switched from AC to DC and do not look back again. AC produces excessive intermodulation distortion which is evident to the well trained ear.
Many guys in this forum, we're using Rod's solution.
mono or stereo amp? I am going to build a new mono system soon just so I can use some incredibly rare single tubes I have collected.Currently I only have one RCA 801a Trying to find a friend for it so I can plug them in my 10y amp.I found a single sylvania. I thought I might bid on that being impatient and eventually find another one of each for 2 pair but just use the odd pair for the time being.
Yea that's interesting. My 10y is driven hard. I think even the ten y responded to big drive. They come alive. I am using a lundahl pp as parallel feed driven by a ml6. My next 801a amp I build I plan to use something larger to drive like 845. I dont need A2 with all the feedback needed. I have been tempted to build one many times but I have a stash of 25T and 809 to use if I do.
Go ahead and build this amp!
I remember once that I had listened to 210 mesh (close to VT-25) and blew my heart away!

Yes I have 3 10 globe rca they are so far ahead of the 10y's its heart breaking. Way to dear to buy these days. So mine sit in my collection. my god my typing this I have probably made them even more expensive.
If you really like to build this amp, it's worth searching for 210 mesh.
They are the only tubes that I still remember I had plugged onto my amp prototype and they blew my heart away.

On your schematics, I have seen that you prefer choke input filter. I have experimented a lot, but the sound is not that good to my ears. Actually I 've never had best results with choke input filter, although I cannot find a theoretical approach for this...
Peter.
That is intersting...I came to the same conclusion on one of my DAC tube output stage...choke input choked the tone away...but as I used 20H input, maybe too high inductance ? will have to try...but the tone, espcially the fine vibrations of a guitar strings or a piono resonance came back with putting a 4uF paper in oil in....
...any other non-conventional tips a and learning from you ? To figure out these kind of things is more fun when you are not the only one who wents crazy....

Yes, choke input has been abandoned several years ago. Actually it is so bad for music.
Of course everybody has his opinion on this. But not all of us are equal after all... We are not all equally experienced...
Do you want your musical tones chopped? Very simple :apply a choke input filter!
Have a nice day!
