hello all is a dac worth buying. i have just brought monitor audio gs20 great sounding speakers. i have the yaqin 2100 amp yaqin cd3 buffer and marantz cd6003 cd player. they all sound great now. but someone said if i added a dac to my system it would be 8 times better. i find that a little hard to belive. so that is why i am asking this forum for there help. witch dac would be the best for me and can i also use my cd buffer with a dac or not. thank you all lee
yes a DAC is another step up... especially if you download High definition recordings, direct.
Some very nice ones can be found as kits or assembled on eBay at lower prices.

8x better? not 7 or 9x? what a ridiculous statement...
better yes, I prefer dedicated dacs, but saying something is 8x better...

many dacs are usb1.1 that means you are limited to 48kHz 16bit
me using tascam us200, 96k/24bit not a problem

Other than for the utility of obtaining new digital source compatibility, such for USB or for hi-rez, you would really need to judge with you own ears as to whether a given DAC is worth buying. If you tell us your budget, we may be able to suggest some candidates to audition, but you will likely not regret trusting your own ears.

I believe it depends upon the relative quality of the hardware built-in to the computer which drives the DAC. I have a Firestone audio Furbar3/MKII DAC which I don't use because it has no benefit relative to the computer which has Nvidia chipsets for audio output.

well thats some pretty old hardware, UAC2 has been capable of 4 channel 32/384, or 8 x 32/192 for at least 2-3 years
Even a 48kHz 16bit DAC is a big step up from motherboard audio outputs in many cases (from a quality perspective, not frequency/bitrate).
you don´t say ?well thats some pretty old hardware, UAC2 has been capable of 4 channel 32/384, or 8 x 32/192 for at least 2-3 years
