i want to changle the 1st gain of my amp, i put of the 12ax7 circuit and i use ef86.........but i have in my warehouse one ef89....mmm the filaments and the amperes is same between those tubes....but are same????????????????
EF86 is a sharp cutoff tube for low frequency use, EF89 is a remote cutoff tube for high frequency use (usually 10.7Mhz IF).
If you need cheap EF86, use the russian equivalent: 6Ж32П

You can use practically any sharp cutoff pentode instead of EF86.

I tried to say that well performing audio amplifier can be built with practically any sharp cutoff pentode. It does not have to be EF86.

The russian tube is an exact copy of the western EF86. Large stocks are available - that's one issue why it's so cheap compared to the western NOS versions. About the sound ? I don't know...I
