Mundorf Evo /oil

I am looking into these now too but can't find any reviews. What's interesting is that Mundorf only ranks these caps above the M-Cap series and right before the ZN series. They state in their own review that they are not better than the Supremes. Not even the Silver/Gold/Oil. I find that surprising. My guess is that these would work well in power supplies and perhaps are aimed at competing with the the ASC capacitors. As soon as they become available at Parts Connection I am going to try one in my SFP-1 Power Supply.

Mundorf EVO

These new EVO caps have very similar length to diameter ratio used by Clarity Cap. Is this a coincidence? If these factors are real positive attributes then surely the Supreme range is due for a revision.

The original output coupling caps in my Xindak DAC-5 were WIMA MKS 4's.
IMO these are reasonably good performers.

However, I replaced them with the original AuriCaps.
I thought these were very good - but too transparent in this application.

Then I tried a Mundorf ZN's as output coupling caps.
For whatever reason, the sonics were harsh.

The ZN's were replaced with Supreme's and the sonics are now very good.
I certainly won't be buying ZN's again.

If you try the Mundorf EVO silver gold oil - could you let us know your opinion ?

Also, know that even though film caps are non polarized,
the outside of the foil should be connected to the low Z side of the circuit.

Are you sure about this, where did you find that information?
According to Mundorf this is incorrect, I'm quoting directly from their spec sheet>
http://www.hificollective.co.uk/pdf/mundorf_evo_datasheet.pdf

"The all-new MCap® EVO SilverGold.Oil unites
the audible features of the MCap® EVO Oil with
those of a SilverGold metallization to a breathtakingly
beautiful music performance. The beauty
of the MCap® EVO SilverGold.Oil’s music performance
is only surpassed by Mundorf‘s top-line
SUPREME capacitors."

That's pretty much every capacitor they make except the MKP and ZN line.

I have used the ZN as coupling caps too and although I found them to be very neutral (and unexciting) the Supremes are definitely better. I have heard the EVO Aluminum & OIl caps in a Class A power supply so not as coupling caps. It certainly helped smooth out the upper mid band harshness. I would go for the proven winner here and that is the Supremes, which is already a compromise down from the Supreme Silver & Oil. I have heard the SIO in coupling & crossover duties and they are a lively and excitingly detailed cap.

I know it is not as signal cap i have tryed the new mundorf alu & oil cap, but I replaced my Jantzen cross caps in my compressiondriver cross over with them, but soon took them out again, because they seems boring and un-dynamic to listen to. back with the cheap Jantzen capacitors.

mundorf evo silver gold oil

Hey ,
I used an EVO silver gold oil to replace a solen fast cap 1.0 mfd in a bybee power rail and the difference was immediate and not subtle. Much more life , much more dynamic and the mid-range took on more in the room transparency. I am removing mundorf zn's and will put in these in their place. The zn's don't have enough body and are a little lifeless, a little 2 dimensional. These caps are great for classical piano and acoustic music . but rock and Jazz are great too. Maybe not to supreme silver oil level but they have their own appeal.

😉

Hi.
I'm working on upgrading a pair of Radford Monitor speakers crossovers.
In the process I'm adding a Coles 4001G super-tweeter to the setup and turn them into the Auditorium model (they share the same FN7/5 crossover schematic, it just needs an 300uh inductor and a 0.47uf cap aded).
I bought the following replacement capacitors from willys-hifi.com:

8x Mundorf ECap AC 8uf 70V Bipolar Electrolytic Capacitor - PLAIN
https://willys-hifi.com/products/mu...olytic-capacitor-plain?variant=42037499265279

4 x Mundorf ECap AC 4uf 70V Bipolar Electrolytic Capacitor - PLAIN
https://willys-hifi.com/products/mu...olytic-capacitor-plain?variant=42037209596159

4 x Mundorf MCap EVO Oil 0.47uf 450V Capacitor
https://willys-hifi.com/products/mundorf-mcap-evo-oil-0-47uf-450v-capacitor?variant=51344326867

I bought the more expensive 0.47uf "MCap EVO Oil" only because I couldn't find the cheaper "E Cap" at the 0.47uf rating.

Now I got a few questions regarding these capacitors:

1. I've measured all of them with the multimeter.
The 8uf Mundorf ECaps measure in the region of 9.2uf (+15%) rated +/-5%
The 4uf Mundorf ECaps read around 4.92uf (+23%) rated +/-5%
The 0.47uf Mundorf MCaps Evo Oil measured 0.465 (-1%) rated +/-3%

I wonder if it's normal for the ECaps to measure 15% - 20% higher out of the box given their +/-5% tolerance rating.

2. I was wondering if someone could have a look at the diagram and let me know if I got the A - Z ends of the Evo Oil caps right.

Many thanks!

Try this as inputs. I'm building a crossover for Seas Exotics but have Supremes / Supreme Silver Gold Oil - so no first hand knowledge. I was, however, swayed to the Supremes from the article.

As to availability, https://www.soniccraft.com/index.ph...5_372?osCsid=b63752920efd0c0a7f9e78ab52ab6283. has them listed plus the uptick SGO versions
I was asking questions regarding the caps I already have. I didn't ask for recommendations on other caps or stores from where to buy tem.

Actually, the way I read their print is it's pretty much none of the capacitors they make except the Supremes.

100s of subjective reviews , of capacitor sound qualities with ratings.
The ratings follows the prices and profit margins more or less. And the top rated ones are sold by the reviewer🙄

Might take it with a grain of salt.
