Greetings fellow water buffalo . I recently picked up a set of Cerwin Vega E708 which are an 8" 2 way not sure what year they were made , anyway they are in mint shape no dents or dings and I got them for a song to boot . I was thinking of a lil tweeking such as a new crossover , the stock crossover is pretty cheezy cheap cheap like bird parts throughout . I was hoping someone had already tried some tweeks of their own and might want to share their thoughts . The cheezy stock crossover is stuffed on a tiny printed circuit but it looks like a 12db network on the tweeter and I see a zobel network but I am not 100% sure it is in tweeter circuit , there is also a small what looks like a M.O.V which is a protection circuit for the tweeter , I am not going to abuse them and know when a amp is clipping so should I eliminate it ? what does it to sound quality? . Thankz 2 all
Hi,
Not trying to rain on your parade but are you sure those are worth the effort? CV's are often thought of as a party type speaker not so much for critical listening so it may be just best to leave as is and consider a build from scratch? A true diy effort is very rewarding.
I've owned 4 CV's over the years and they have lived up to their reputation.

Hi Cal I got them for a sweet deal so if I drop a bit into em I'm ok with it .
The weak links are a cheezy Xover and then the tweeter , the bass driver and cabinets are very nice and minty so as a project it will be fun 😉 A couple of 6mf caps and a couple air core coils wouldn't break the bank . I am actually pleasantly with these a lower listening levels they are much better a low levels of playback than I would have guessed . I"m willin to throw $50 into em
Then have at 'er. My CV's were larger than yours, made for light duty PA [read canned bar music], had lousy cabinets, lousy drivers and a simple XO. If yours don't fit that bill then great. I hope it works out for ya. Keep us informed.
so as a project it will be fun 😉
Then please disregard my previous posts. 😀
Cheers.

Seem to get good reviews here.

Build new box and add a midrange for a 2.5-way??
How about keeping the a 2 way but upgrading tweeter with say a Vifa ?
Vifa D27TG-35-06 1" Silk Dome Tweeter 264-1022
As I am not familiar with the speaker you ask about I really cannot say.
My suggestion was based on a minimum of listening to other CV speakers which all had good, strong bass and rather woolly midrange definition.
The tweeter you link too has a solid reputation but I have never used it ( only the D-27-45-06 ) but changing the tweeter will mean working up a new XO
What tweeter in in the box now?
A new midrange and big coil would of course cost more than the $50- you have said you wanted to spend but the Aurasound from PA is cheap and probably good enough to play with.

If you crossed at 4k then the existing tweeter may be usable.
What's the current XO frequency by the values on the XO board?

Those reviews appear to be from normal people who like music that took time out of their day to post a quick review on something they just bought or own. I prefer reviews by "ordinary" (non audio professional) people sometimes.
So you are saying that you, as a member of audioreview post joke reviews for fun??? 😕
I don't understand your comment, can you please elaborate?
