... I have been "supposed" to go to Victoria...
When you moved it was out of Victoria?

We are working on the passive XO for those kind of people. The uFonkenSET + woofT is something special.
Bi-amping is very effective, but passive XO for single amp set up definitely has appeal.
And we are working on a followup desire that is monolithic and inspired by the blade.
Man... I need to finish the proto that you drew up..
one general driver size doubt.
above 300hz what is the proper(min or max) driver size keeping in mind good efficiency and wider dispersion? in other words, what are the diff.driver sizes for diff.freq. ranges?

I'm not the expert to answer this question but if you mean which size full range driver to combine with subwoofers, Zaph Audio said 3 inch full range drivers are more suitable to combine with woofers.
so for fe83en or ff85wk, what could be the proper xover point according to you to get moderate efficiency out of the driver at around say 7W clean power (considering TA2020 T-amp). have you done any such experiments with diff.xover points from efficiency point of view?Getting power handling out of the FE83en doesn't come without crossing high imo. Like Dave said, the FF85 would likley cross lower. But then there's effeciency. Any lower than 500hz isn't really doing all that much good.
thanks fakeout, that answers my question partially. a link would be very helpfulI'm not the expert to answer this question but if you mean which size full range driver to combine with subwoofers, Zaph Audio said 3 inch full range drivers are more suitable to combine with woofers.
First, I'd agree 3" is about right for mid tweet duty. Not because of any dispersion characteristics, rather smooth frequency response, IMO.
As for the xo vs efficiency, re-reading my post I see where I didn't make sense. The cross over doesn't determine efficiency. I meant that the fe83en has to cross higher, but it's more effecient.
Dave has more experience than I with both drivers. I've only used the fe83. I'd like to hear the ff85. My inkling is the ff85 is better. The speaker I posted about is quite effecient. If you wanna go loud on 7 watts, the fe83 with a pair of silver flutes is a good way to go. If I ported it that would be a effecient speaker that covers a lot of range. Usually only get that with big speakers. BUT!!! I think better is possible if you play at less than loud, aka not a home theatre application.

sorry i did not mentioned that i will be going active 2way. so full 7W will be available for the full ranger. woofer will be powered by a separate 100w amp (plenty of juice there!).
also these speakers will be used both for audio as well as front speakers in HT.
Tough choice. Everyone is saying the FF85 is insanely good. But I haven't heard it. It looks like from the spec sheet that the ff85 has the same 2khz blip in the impedance and frequency response. I didn't find it that bad on the FE83. 2 or 3db of effeciency doesn't sound like much, but ya know, that's like 14watts versus 7.
What woofer do you plan on using?

also i see a peak at 10khz. not sure if it will effect sound a lot.
woofer not decided yet. plenty of choices are there, but will prefer a local one. peerless India has got woofers in 5.25", 6.5" and 8". most of them have good efficiency of around 88dB or more. 6.5" and 8" ones can reach down to 40hz at least. dual 6.5" in ported/sealed box is what i am planning if not single 8" woofer
Ladysmith? Man you're now what, about an hour and a half from Dave's?
Typically 3/4 to an hour depending on traffic. Less on a bike at high speed.

I am going to be going by Nanaimo Thursday afternoon if Ryan wants me to bring you anything.

When you stop by to drop off the woofers, you can pick up those headed Ryan's way.

Give's me the (bad) idea of sticking the cat's feet in some bright paint and depositing the cat on your car 😀
