I am curious to see if there is any interest in a product idea I have. I have built my own sound diffusers in the past but they never matched my room decor or added something to the look of my audio room. My fiance is a professional artist, you can see her work here.

I was wondering if there would be much demand for sound absorbers with art. They could possibly be built with canvas fronts where she could paint upon them. Does this sound like something that you guys would be interested in or possibly your wives would be interested in?

Nice idea, as I am staring at a pair of 5 x 6 foot blanks of burlap. Canvas may be a little too reflective for the highs. I was thinking of something "fuzzy" like airbrush work. I floated the idea of my wife doing some needlework, but that did not fly.
For DIY, fantastic. I doubt you could do custom work that more than Bill Gates could afford. Just too many hours. Now, if you had a catalog of silk-screened or otherwise production produced cloths to cover your panels, maybe. Getting anyone on this forum to talk about panes has been a tough sell to start with. I guess the latest new amp is more exciting even though the payoff of proper treatments is far greater.

I have this idea that artists really don't like being asked "What is it?", and "What's it for?" seems much worse.
Graphic design, and arts and crafts, are about utility. Fine art is supposed to be pure...as in useless.
OTOH, I imagine a gallery on opening day...critics chatting and clinking glasses...irreverent hubub...except around one work entitled "Diffusion", where there is a tranquil hush. Perhaps diffusers could be exalted.
Once famously accepted as true art, you could sell reproductions. Naturally Brittany would have a public tizzy fit about her soul being sullied by her parasitic ex-fiance.
TVRGEEK canvas may be a little refletive but I think the trade off would be a much better look final product. It is pretty easy to get prints made on canvas which would keep things affordable. There are some ways to do custom looking work pretty quickly but it does have some trade offs. I don't understand why we don't have an area dedicated to the acoustics in a DIY audio forum. The room and it's accoustics play a bigger role in audio then just about any piece in the system. When I build my sound absorbers and installed them in the right locations it brought the quality of my audio system up almost an order of magnitude.

If you want to be a profesional artist you have to sell your art. It is way easier to sell 1,000 pieces at $100 then 100 pieces at $1000 or even 10 at $10000. Functional fine art sounds like a wonderful idea to me how ever. I consider good design to be functional fine art, just don't call a designer an artist, I learned that the hard way. For the audio connoisseur you get a huge improvement in the sound quality of your audio room and an even bigger improvement in it's WAF as a whole.
