Books...
I have read some books...however you can learn a lot from experience..
Perhaps more in some situations..
Books are written by people...read by people, interpreted by people, sometimes actioned by people. Most are left behind in the sands of time..some have great teachings...
The problem is that just the mention of some can cause problems...I always thought the content was more important than the pages..however most are beyond dispute or self interpretation...
Look at Henry the 8th...I want a kind universe...perhaps I ask to much..

How do you plan on experiencing a black hole? I would prefer to read about them!
Death?

This forum is not the place to teach stuff which takes some years to learn, even for those with the necessary understanding of maths. However there is a shortcut for those who want to learn something about physics: buy almost any book written by Richard Feynman and read it carefully. It won't turn you into a physicist, but it may reduce your ignorance of physics.
Similarly, buy a good translation of the Bible in your native tongue and read it carefully. It won't necessarily turn you into one of the flavours of monotheist, but it may help you avoid some of the more common misconceptions about those of us who are.
(Mods, please forgive me: I am trying to be helpful without breaking the site rules!)
The point about the Bible is good . I have a Rabi for that . He no longer is practicing as one . Read Herodotus also . The Bible does seem a bit one sided if you do . When I asked the Rabi why Herodotus has little to say about his tribe he said " that's easy Nige we just had a rotten time in Babylon and were keeping our head down " . Read Herodotus on Babylon and it's defenses . It is fascinating . Virtually no mention of religion in it . Well that's not really true , there is but mostly reporting facts about how people see things . Herodotus could teach many how to be modern thinkers . Unfortunately and gladly he left his mark on me . I probably believe India is plagued by ants the size of dogs . His ideas about the Nile and Egyptian engineering are stunning . He says in 20 000 years from then he predicts the Nile might join the Red sea . Friends tell me the Nile has made dramatic changes over time .
Me also trying not to brake rules . However I detect a similarity in rules of science and other rules of the past . I think a scientific atheist is now as unthinkable as once it was to be the other sort . Live and let live I say . My Rabi gave up and is a non believer I think ? He is the most able historian I ever met . Rabi means teacher .

I have never seen this before..

You know...I am begining to think that it might be impossible to know the answer..perhaps it is just an understanding based upon faith..
Perhaps the human mind can't expand beyond a certain point....perhaps it was never meant to...in this existance...I think if we lost the ability to dream we would be at the end...

I think the simple fact we exist is very challenging . We are trapped on this planet that's for sure .
I have never talked with a native of Australian . I would love to know more of the " Dream time " . I believe their culture says they willed their existence . The fact they could imagine that is significant not any proof of the truth of it .
It is said the getting nowhere dream is common , as is the flying dream . I had the flying dream only once . It was wonderful and very real . I even felt my wings have muscles . Now that takes some explaining . It was when I was young . Only now do I feel it strange . To fly no , to feel yes . Also the perspectives were correct . I couldn't know that then .

If the black hole is massive enough and in a relatively "calm" state, you can go through the event horizon and survive. Of cause you will die as you come closer to the centre of the black hole. And once you have passed the event horizon there is no way to come back.
If the black hole is small you will die long before you go through the event horizon.
In one of my more fanciful moments I saw myself as neutrino if defining my soul in transit . I wondered if a neutrino can pass ? Does Cern injure neutrinos ? I doubt it does ?
Yes, but as you say it is a one-way ticket. So for a big black hole you can experience it quite safely (at first) but never share that knowledge with others, and for small black hole you may be ripped apart by tidal forces before you reach the horizon.Dirk95100 said:If the black hole is massive enough and in a relatively "calm" state, you can go through the event horizon and survive.
I will stick to reading books!

Its much more fun watching others go into a black hole.
You will see them get ripped apart and their mass spread around the event horizon.

I don’t see how we can get further than Mars for a manned base and if /when we ever get to the outer edge of the solar system and look out at the void what then?
I tend to think the answer is not in physical science as we know it now..I don’t see a ship of the future being able to cover such great distances so we are back to the folding of space/ time and or perhaps we can do it ourselves (mind power)we just haven’t reached that point yet..
If none of this is possible we better start looking after the planet a lot better than we are at the moment …because mars is a possible next step…but the Human race is already finished we just don’t know it yet..
The only other possibility is intervention from somewhere else…Think bigger than just aliens…
Perhaps we could escape into another dimension? I’ve just realised I could be talking about ascension, however it was not intentional or where I wanted to end up. What about the other life on our planet would it not be worth saving? (I want an ark) Then again we should move the planet and take it all…where else is there so much life…preserve it for our own peace of mind…how could we live with ourselves if we let it die?
The thought of quality of life….life for the sake of living?
Wouldn’t it be great to live for a thousand years in a ten metre square room with no windows…remembering what you watched be destroyed so you could live on..

Dragging this thread back to actual science, see the NPL electron pump.
Nano Tech..Its got to be the best advancement in many years..The Nano computer..?
Its about time we had some innovation...As with anything it can be used for good or bad..

This may well cost less than living on Mars, and if we make our own habitats we can eventually make much more room than the surfaces of Earth and Mars:You don't think a generation ship is possible?

As someone who "believes in" the laws of physics as presently known (thing like the speed of light being an upper limit for the speed of any mass), I believe it is the ONLY possibility for traveling to other stars.
If none of this is possible we better start looking after the planet a lot better than we are at the moment …because mars is a possible next step…but the Human race is already finished we just don’t know it yet..

Well,
The generation ship...silent running or rendezvous with rama...A.C. Clarke
Yes long distance..(No heat, no light, no power, for a long long time?)
Space habitat..needs to be in orbit?<<around what...the other planets<<<a possible maybe..takes the planet out of the equation..possible raw materials.

The generation ship,
Takes so long to get there (42) we don't know why we set out or where we have come from...
We find the aliens hostile...with no way back...We better be ready to fight for it..survival of the fittest..(Whos the agressive one) with all our animals and knowledge at risk...We would fight to win...
