wow, thanks found it. will take a look now.
If you turn the volume control down to zero and the hiss/noise becomes inaudible then that tells you that the power amplifier is adequately noiseless.
If turning up the volume control brings back the noise, then that confirms that something before the volume control is creating the excess noise.
Shorting the inputs will confirm if a bad termination at the inputs is the cause of the excess noise. Did you say that you have 4 inputs? You will need to short all 4 of them using 4 dummy zero ohms plugs, or whatever you have to hand.
If that silences the noise, then remove one shorting plug to hear if one or more inputs are creating the noise.

I think the amp module is the LRC (Lowest Replaceable Component). B&W might be able to offer an exchange unit if it is faulty.
It looks like your pre-out is poorly matched to the sub.
Have a chat with B&W in the morning and see what they suggest.

right I have connected the input to the RH phono as normal, and connected a phono the right hand, and simply shorted it out, it sorts it.
Does that mean I have bad interferance outside the sub then. Shall I just make up a shorted phono would that be adequate, as it does solve it.

The Sub woofer has no directional information, it just kicks the floor basically. If it is working with RH only then its working. It looks as though you've got a poor phono connection somewhere.
it works on left and right, but get the hissing, if I however short the input not in use, then hiss goes away, sounds obvious but is that simply the answer, I will make a proper shorting plug now.
made up a shorting plug, and its all fine and dandy now, thanks for your help, love a nice simple fix.
right time for a movie or two.
