What's a discreet DAC?

jan didden

AFAIK a discrete DAC is one where every bit has its own input pin, that is addressed separately - quite a difference from a bus like I2S. I have some BurrBrown chips that work like that (but i haven't put it together). There is even a SONY decoder chip normally used for I2S out mode that can be set in 16 bits discrete out mode. So it could be simple .. . no digital glue needed, just a 16-stranded flatwire and latching.
