I Can Has Special Honors!
I have a lot of opinions that I chose to keep to myself, and still do.
This isn't the place for telling us what a super-special design you have, but it's way too super special to share. (We had another guy, long since b&, who pulled that over in the solid state forums a few years back.)
I notice you have been here since November, 2011, and Steve's been here since December, 2011. Yet, this is the first time I've ever heard from either of you. Interesting that.
As for myself, I share schemos. This place got me up to speed on hollow state design, and everyone's been quite helpful. I give back.
What are you giving back?
While most of the posters here have been polite, well spoken, and intelligent, I must call out Miles Prower "whatever the hell his name was" and Cassiel "Big Mouth" for particular honors.

Maby now it's getting more interesting , enough about safety issues , let it for the beginers , I don't think that some one who build and sail amps has little knowledge about it , or let the beginers make a search on the net or read books about it , let's move to more technical issues like paraphase phase spliters problems .
Miles, I guarantee Lance has helped more people then you, I promise.
He has always taught whoever wanted to learn, no charge, he has been doing this for YEARS, this is public knowledge, you seemed to have left that part out.
He has spent many of hours personally responding to my EVERY question.
There is nothing interesting about how long they have been here, you guys dragged them into abyss, this was not started be them to promote their product, let's remember that.
I would like to see you walk on a construction site and demand that a skilled elder carpenter show you what he has learned over the years without giving the appropriate amount of respect. Where has the romance gone?
"It's finger lickin' good" 🙂

Other way around. The carpenter wandered into THIS site and got offended when he was asked to participate in the same way the rest of us do.
..and that's his right to do so, any educated person is by no means obligated to teach people treating them with ignorance.
You do it all the time SY, you have your favorites who you help, and then there are those who you don't help because they are ignorant to you. 😉 ,although I wouldn't know anything about the latter.

M Gregg, see what you created? 😡
All it needed was one extra word in the title (Unusual looking amps).
Speaking of which... electron luv | hi-fi vacuum tube atomic age audio, amplifiers, guitar amps, speakers, horns, Salt Lake City, UT

As far as I'm aware, I've never hidden one of my designs. When there are critiques, I can defend them or take my lumps. That's how I learn. 😀
"Interesting thread. Sorta like the faith healers coming to the surgeons' forum…"
hahahahah!
im an newby in this hobby, i have learn allot from every one here and no one have ever shot me down for asking the most basic question, this is a great place of knowledge. i have build a few amps and preamp that im very proud of, i have to utilize every one i know and every book i can get my hand on to accomplish my project and not once did i feel like i was a "MASTER BUILDER".
This guy's amp is a joke, if safety is not the firs thing on your list and you cant answer to that concern but the only thing you can come up with was everyone's jealous.
what a joker and the MASTER joker and all the JOKERS AMPS they built.
i really enjoy the thread.

Well that was helpful, thanks for that Tim.
Anything else about yourself you care to share with us?
Tim, I noticed you did not choose to ground your RH84 IEC plug, any reason for this?
Any reason for the 90degree bends in your wiring? Did you read all those books or just sit on them to reach the table?

pin out of 807 is not same as 6L6. A converter is needed to convert 807 to 6L6.
Chinese equivlent of 807 is FU7

Actually GloBug, I think you have the situation ****-backwards. These two are the ones coming to the skilled elder carpenters, stating that they know all, when the standard of their workmanship clearly indicated that they don't know as much as they think they do.
The two of them went to great lengths to avoid the legitimate questions and comments, particularly about the safety issues. I might be wrong, but my intuition says that they are not willing to answer those questions because they don't want to admit they don't know the answers or are B.S.-ing. To come here and admit as much would not be good for the 'reputation' they have built.
You say that Lance has answered all of your personal questions? Perhaps you might want to question him on his safety standards off-forum so his ego and reputation is not on public display. Ignoring that stuff when some pretty respected forum members with no axe to grind gave them some advice is more than dumb, it is negligent.
Cheers.
Well, I'm most disappointed in both Lance and Steve with regards to the safety issue. I posted the ref numbers of several safety related specs that are recognized by CSA and other Canadian agencies hoping thy would understand that safety is not to be taken lightly.
Like my moma used to say, " You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink it."

Oh great another expert.
Dude you stepped into the wrong thread if you don't want your product critiqued.
Where do I begin.....you can't even sort out the proper primaries to sell to your customers, you sell used clipped capacitors with your kits, you say to "save money", who's money are you saving, your own I bet.
Because after all we all know how hard it is to find cheap capacitors in China of all places.
You act like you promote value, when all you really do is use cheap 2 month long ground shipping. If you used regular shipping like the rest of the world you could not compete. You target newbies with little knowledge about amps.
I have seen many times where members here have had to correct you on products you are already selling. You were selling that FU50 kit and had to be corrected on the tube you were selling, memba that?
Remember your quote "FU50 is the little 300B", you were using that to push an amp that uses a tube from a tank. A little bit of research here reveals the FU50 to be a horribly inconsistent tube, not worth building unless you had 50 tubes to choose from. You were told that and yet here we are.
I have fixed 3 amps and seven Chinese guitars this week. All of the amps had "QC" stickers all over them, yet had broken PCB boards inside. These are all "new" products. Appalling really the amount of fake product and certification that comes out of there. I guess it's not hard to fake a UL stamp.
I could go on and on, I never said anything before because you were selling here, I figured I would leave you alone. That being said there are MUCH better Chinese vendors on eBay then yourself, that's sad.
You are the last retailer I would expect to dip his toes in the shark tank.

All you can pick apart is the 2 prong cable, and to what is your opinion is messy wiring.
Every old tube device I have opened up has looked like that, with the exception of a Heathkit Ham that was laced together nicely.
Some old guys don't wear seatbelts, they grew up without them, some guys don't like motorcycle helmets. You ddon't buy it.
It's no different then buying a vintage car or a Hot Rod off somebody, the new owner would be responsible for certifying it in his area.
He is not claiming any certification.
I don't think I have ever seen a "legal" amp on this site, I can always pick something out.
The amps we build with external tubes is far more of a concern then Lance's power cord, a simple grommet will solve that.
I can also assure you not many are using wiring approved for the HIGHEST potential voltage in the box. That's right you should have 600v everywhere, anything in the amp needs 600V insulation to be up to code, including the insulation on your capacitors.

The issue GloBug is that they are passing themselves off as experts, and selling dangerous products that could pose a threat to human life. The people buying the amps may have no clue about safety. It is the seller's obligation to meet a minimum set of safety requirements set forth by governing bodies.
A simple grommet will not solve the problem. It would not be accepted by any safety agency, and that is the main issue I have. Read the specs I posted. In time the grommet will fail. A grounded three prong connector will not.
For S&G I asked our safety engineer about using a rubber grommet to achieve "double insulation" and he laughed at me.
Why are you so defensive over this issue where human life could be at stake?

Yeah, lets see some of these photos. How did you come by them?
Some naive person (2nd owner of one of his amps) posted them on ImageShack. Not easy to find anyway. I really prefer to move on and forget about this. I really don't want to put anyone out of business but I hope he changes his ways because some of the amps he's selling are time bombs.

Take a look at old Quad, Leak, Marantz, Fairchild, Acrosound...

I was interested in looks and topology

I didn't think the two were incompatible??
Anyway I do find the paraphase interesting..
Your link is great...nice looking amps 🙂
If I had changed it would the situation be better?
Regards
M. Gregg
