Saved the boxes from Dave's bonfire.
RS 1354 EnABLed running full range with a little tweeter from Jesse on a 1.5mfd cap and 10 ohm resistor.
Eastech 5.25" on the back running full range in series with the RS. (12ohm total)
Reckhorn W-130 woofer either side in series (8 ohm total) with a 6.2 mH choke.
Two sets are paralleled.

Sounds pretty good. Might have to bring these to the island this year. 🙂

I guess this is a FAST with a cheater tweeter? 🙂

They are a little power hungry but when you give them the juice, they really open up. The neighbours are away so I kinda let my hair down. The Reckhorns need some break in time but having just listened to an hours worth of bass heavy music these little babies, with the bottom firing port open, are very reminiscent of a 70's party speaker. Cerwin Vega / Realistic Mach I kinda thing. (read: high Q, warm bass)

With the "stick a sock in it" aperiodic loading, the bass is very controlled. Almost PA-ish. Nice chest thump.

I guess the port can be left open for outdoor use and closed for in the bedroom.

Man these are fun! 😀

salvage lashup

Lovin the coil lashed to the stool. Looks like some of my combos. I just discovered how handy a Niles type speaker switcher can be, including the effect of the "protection circuit" resistance on the sound. Makes for quick comparisons with only half the wire nuts in some cases.

I certainly look forward to seeing (and hearing) Cal's new speakers this next Summer.

Has a date for the Vancouver Island DIY Meet been decided upon?
I need to start planning for "The Puget Sound! DIY Speaker Contest" and it would be handy to know...eh
😀

Best Regards,
TerryO

Hi Dave,

August 25th is all yours!

BTW: If it turns out that we did our event on a Saturday after the 25th would that present a problem for you?

Best Regards,
TerryO

OK, I'm tired of playing games. 🙂

The XO is getting closer but anything I've written so far, no longer applies. You may not see it but many changes have occurred. I hope I get these things done before the August diyFest. 😉

The clear fabric tweeter is way underrated. I see that with a lot of the HiVi domes. It blends really nicely even with a 1st order when crossed so high.

All done. Mounted the tweeter, soldered the wires, fixed the loose veneer, added more stuffing including a partial aperiodic loading of the port (read: covered the port with 2 layers natural felt).

XO'd at 120 Hz and 12K 1st order.

Ready for the next diyFest on the island. If you guys like them, I'll build new boxes and have yet another diySpeaker.

Dave, thanks for the EnABLed drivers and Terry, I hope you like what I've done to the RS 1354 driver I know you really like.

Cheers. 🙂
