Based on Hugh Dean's AKSA 55

Dear John Bally,
I have no capabilities and competency for bringing this baby AKSA into our local diy forum. Since my education is majoring in accounting. I just do it for my hobby. The thing I can do is just starting the thread, and let anybody else to answer the questions will be coming up. But I think that is not a responsible behavior. So maybe I wouldn’t do that…
I do agree with John, that it will be an honor if Mr. Hugh Dean and Mr. Greg Erskine them self could come to see our local diy forum and start a new thread referring to this baby AKSA. The language should be a problem anyway. But google provides translation, doesn’t it? He he
Best Regards,
Arif B.
I am sorry for my “bad English”

Its okay
in our forum we don't need to be an expert to start a new topic
because we are not experts that why we need any help from the other one

Just forget about it, AKSA will not come to our Indonesian forum
this i guess because our "pirate" behavior
that must be very hurt because (this maybe will happen or has been happening)
there are many not responsible people that copying
this AKSA in mass production and sell it as a kit
& what will AKSA gets?
Even 1000's apologize will not enough

I'm just wondering if he really want to see our forum
just to surprise us he...3x 😀
Mr Hugh can speak Indonesian lho
Maaf ya kalau kata2 saya tidak berkenan di hati anda
salam damai dari Bali

Regards

John Bali

don't forget to say
MERRY CHRISTMAS

God Bless U

John Bali, Arif yth,

I have no objection to Indonesians discussing and building the Baby AKSA. It is certainly regrettable I can't make money out of it, but I have a soft spot for the country as my wife is from Semarang and I adore the countryside and the society. If you have private inquiries, I will answer them by email, but I have to say to you that in the ten years since I designed the AKSA I have created many more amplifiers, almost all of them sonically superior. If the AKSA is good, I'm pleased; but my later designs are even better. But as a simple amp, uncritical of parts, the AKSA is very suited to the Asian hobbyist, as nothing is particularly difficult to find and getting it going is easy for the newbie.

You have my blessing and my best wishes,

Selamat Tahun Baru!!

Ciao,

Hugh

Nice build Al! that is a massive transformer!! 🙂 do you have ventilation holes at the front in teh bottom? I assume the fan is sucking air through the heatsinks.

So is your niece thrilled with the present?

Tony.

Ta. Traffo is from one of those strange Technics hybrid amps, found in a neighbours rubbish on bin day. The rest was beyond recovery, but the traffo fine. The bottom of the case is actually 2mm steel, to give the case a bit of rigidity, vent holes are on the top cover. Not ideal I know, but she is pretty careful. The fan is blowing on the heatsinks, for more turbulent flow and better cooling, running from my old faithful "el cheapo" LM317 fan speed controller. A simple OPA2134 serves as a pre, and the whole thing runs at about 60W per side.

The speakers were sealed, rolling off at about 80Hz, so they go to party levels with very little stress, and I used a bit of a 2K bump in the crossover for clarity. It also gives me the option of building her a sub for next year. 🙂

We didn't get chance to play on Christmas day, but I went around the other night and we had a bit of a session, she was absolutely chuffed. Result!

I had about two hours uncritical listening before I had to hand it over, then about an hour with Ellie as she was just going through her favourite tracks from her iPod. She was dead chuffed, and I thought it sounded very pleasant. Score one for the bAKSA. 🙂

The traffo was very solid, I'd guess about 300VA, I couldn't get any voltage sag even running both channels at full tilt. Luckily for my compact chassis, it was also screened, and very quiet. Some people just have no idea what they're throwing away!

As for the Big One, it's moving up the list. 😉
