Yes. Take 2- 38 to 40 gauge enameled magnet wires and wrap them around a 2 to 3 mm O.D. PTFE tubing in a crossing pattern. They should cross every 1 to 1.25 inches. Spray assembly with urathane paint. Solder wire to light weight RCA connectors, like Eichman Silver Bullets or even cheap plastic RCAs. Gold plated, if possible. Use 2% silver solder. Takes about 3-5 hours the first time you build them.

Be ready to be amazed. Oh, and they are fragile, so be careful with them.

If you need shielded wire, forget about this recipe. 😀

Even some www ETFE 30 AWG does the job, perhaps less delicate but still works better than about any commercials.

Amen! You think he was playing a joke, until you heard them! Wow!

True. A good wire can be the Van Den Hull MC150 to do this too. The single strand version.

I'm making XLRs with 0,1mm CuAg wire - just 3 wires , through comb-like plastic tube .

peachy .....

Rocks 😎 The foils could be a nice upgrade. They still sell them at Vacuum State ... 😛

I made a set with 3- 30 gauge wire wrap wire braided, which sounds very good, but the 40 AWG enameled wire is better. Just one set from the CDP to the preamp changed everything. Left me thinking if we should use this wire in amps also. I ordered the silver ribbon from Vaccum State Electronics. Will use it in the Zen 9 inputs and of course in VSE's ultimate IC.

Anyway, sorry eliasGR, were you looking for a commercial interconnect or a DIY interconnect (IC)? Balance or unbalance? How long a distance from preamp to amp? Do you have a shielding requirement? What IC have you seen or heard that you like? What IC are you using now?

That is why VSE silver foils are even superior sounding 🙂 3 mm large x 0,05mm thickness ( 5/100mm )

One can also try with 0,07mm copper foil. Works very well too.

Foils need to be damped (tighlty secured mechanically) and protected from oxidation to achieve long lasting results.

Now I play with interconnects Kimber KS1016 -balance, any opinions about the interconnect Empirical? is beter than Kimber KS1016?
Happy new year,

I don't think there will be any electrical issues using the Kimber between the xa60.5 and xp20, especially is you are using balanced interconnects. Subjectively, are there better sounding cables? Maybe, but that's up to you to decide. Anyone who's going to charge that much for a cable, should let you audition them and other ICs until you find a set you like.

May I suggest to try the ultimate state of art balanced silver foils XLR from Vacuum State, if average target price corresponds. It might be the best sounding for the money.
Silver foils give a really superior grade in naturalness, crispness, extended and realistically tight bass, fast transcients, imaging. Most honest sound possible ! 🙂

Vacuum State - High End Hifi Equipment - Balanced Silver Foils Neutrik terminated

The kits are also available at a lower price, if you're skilled and want the best there is nothing else to do ! 🙂
