Replacement for Motorola MPS-U10?

Hey everyone,

I'm repairing a Bose 1800 series amplifier and am looking to source a replacement for this transistor.

its a Motorola MPS-U10. Bose used it due to RCA discontinuing the 2N6175 back in the day.

I was hoping someone here could recommend me a replacement.

I was looking at mouser and here's what I found thats comparable:

2SC4793 (Seems ideal)

2N5655 (Maybe a bit slow?)

2STC5949 (Maybe excessive?)

BU406 (Also a bit slow?)
BU406 Fairchild Semiconductor Bipolar Power

The pin out on the U10 is EBC, I dont think any of the ones I found are in the same pattern. The U10 attaches to the main heatsink.

Thanks!

Is it the Q3 transistor ? This is a VAS cascode device. I'd say an MJE340 would work well there. You're unlikely to find anything with EBC layout (other than TO-92 package devices) so you will have to do a bit of lead bending to make it fit.

Yes this is Q3. I figured I'd be stuck having to bend leads around. Probably will have to find something to extend them as well.

What were your thoughts on the 2SC4793? I came across the MJE340 in an earlier search. Should have mentioned it as well. I was leaning towards the 4793 because of the higher collector current and high Ft. Most of the others were well below the U10. Originally I dismissed the 4793 because it was only 2W however I opened the datasheet and w/ heatsink it can handle 20W.

They dont seem to mention the MJE's Ft in the datasheet.
