I have a extra TB speakers in the garage. I have built a BIB (good bass) and delsol (compact) and wondering if someone (?Planet10?) can suggest a proper cabinet to build as one of the Fonken variation.
copy of parameters from partsexpress:
*VCdia: 3/4" *Impedance: 8 ohms *Re: 6.6 ohms *Frequency range: 110-20,000 Hz *Fs: 110 Hz *SPL: 86 dB 1W/1m *Vas: .06 cu. ft. *Qms: 4.99 *Qes: .67 *Qts: .59 *Xmax: .5 mm *Dimensions: A: 3-3/16", B: 3-1/16", C: 2-1/4".

As luck would have it, this driver wants to see the same volume as an mFonken, so not only do you have a 1st pass design, you get drawings too 🙂

Dave, this is great, thanks. I will build them before the year ends.

Do report back. Thebox above is based on factory specs, and one always has to worry about those.

I appreciate all your efforts in diyaudio, I will report back.

carefully dry/friction fit the driver brace before gluing in place and applying the damping pads/ buttoning up the box - these little guys don't have a lot of working room

Hello Dave!
i'm new to this forum and i have to say i am fully hooked and impressed, really interesting work from you guys!
so my question is which Fonken?
i have these drivers
do i follow your design here?
i am wondering if they will work in the mini fonken enclosure (in case i want to replace the drivers with 4" later)
i will use the integrated amp from logitech.i found using the nch tone generator that the xover point is between 96 and 100 Hz.
also does a tweeter worth it?(on top of the cabinet)
thank you for your time!

1st: the m is for milli, not mini -- we try to use metric prefixes to give an idea of relative cabinet size.
All in the miniOnken are tightly tuned and the holey driver brace is an important part of the design. If yu have the W3-593, use this design. If you want to do a 4: just do another set of boxes.

profring:
as to question of tweeter - very few of the 3-4" full-rangers I've heard recently would likely need that for most folks - above that size, and in larger venues or off-axis, maybe

thanks for the quick response!
dave i am confused,i go with the design from post #2?or for the miniOnken from your page?
thank you also chris!(any suggestions ?)

also i believe i misunderstood you Chris, you mean no tweeter?

yes, for the indicated TB driver, I very much doubt that a tweeter would be required - in fact most folks would probably consider any driver this size would need help in the bottom

they are part of the logitech z5500 speaker system 5.1,so i have the bottom help!
the woofer cabinet(and crossover cause with nch tone generetor i can hear it from 30hz to 507) will be my next target!
so far i was busy building the wooden pc case!

may i add a few more questions?
1: how low are these enclosures tuned?(excuse my terminology,i am new to this),i'm asking cause there is a subwoofer present and maybe i'll have to stuff the port a little according to Daves page.
2: Is this plan ok for the center speaker positioned on its' side?or i have to have it standing up?
3: since the system will serve both music and home cinema use,i think i want to go with the tweeter as Dave suggests on his page.tweeter suggestions and cross point?
once again if my questions are pointless or silly say it,i'm trying to learn 🙂

1/ i'd hve to dig deep to find that, and on another computer.
2/ If you lay them on their sides the "top & bottom" should be champhered
3/ i would not recommend a tweeter for these

1/ ok don't get in much trouble, since it is my first build!i'll judge with my ear the level of bass i want to choke,if there is any!if you can recall or from experience...do they go below 100hz?that is my built in crossover point!
2/ any ideas for the center speaker?another design or a simple shelf above the tv?
3/ okay got it,NO tweeter!!
is there a way to stop the subwoofer from plying that high tones? (i can hear it till 507hz)

i think i am ready for my last questions before the build
1/ the brace behind the driver, needs to just contact the magnet or putting a little pressure adding stiffness to the build?
2/do i need to use caulk for driver dampening ?
3/ if i stuff the port to cut some bass.will i have temperature problems?
and last but not least....it appears that the logitech drivers aren't exactly the tb-593sf as everybody everywhere suggests ... they are 5mm shorter in height!!
maybe they are a different revision cause i can't find anything else at the TB site!
what should i do?extend the bracing 5mm and make another small hole for the hole to area ratio?or that ruins everything?
thanks for the patience 🙂
i forgot one...how much-thick stuffing ?

Maybe you could mesure the voice coil diameter since it is visible at the aluminium phase plug base:
W3-593SF: VC diameter is 18.4 mm for 61 mm in height

W3-871SC: (similar driver but wihtout kapton VC support and different TS params) VC diameter is 18.0 mm for 60.5 mm in height.
