This site promises that you can download the service manual for free after registering, but I haven't taken then up on the offer. 😉

From the looks of it, there is quite a lot that can go wrong underneath the hood.

Thanks for the links. I appreciate it.
I actually have the schematic and manual, as one of the techs who hasn't been able to fix this thing asked me for these documents. Being a newb, I cannot make heads or tails of that schematic.

The plot sickens now. The old monster is in worse shape than before, as of early this morning. I build computers and have done so for over ten years; I don't think I am heavy handed. But as I was cleaning the variable resistors on the board last night, I touched the two wires connecting the PCB to one set of output transistors, and these wires promptly gave way (these are the outputs for the right channel, I found). I could go Talking Heads and literally burn down the house trying to solder these back on. I know this because it almost happened Monday night.

Now it's decision time. Keep trying to fix this thing, part it out and sell the working pieces for what I can get, or take it out to the range and use it for target practice. Admittedly, options two and three are running well ahead of option one at the moment.

Have you tried, say, the Kenwoodaudio Yahoo! group?
They should be able to recommend you a qualified tech at the very least.

AudioKarma also comes to mind.

just in case -

this person does much with receivers/amps -

he is also on Audiokarma Home Audio Stereo Forums

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

I don't know how it's on your side of the pond, but over here vintage audio equipment lovers would have a Super Eleven restored in a heartbeat. Last time I checked they went for a few hundred, too.

Thanks for the information. If I knew exactly what was wrong with that bad channel, I'd sell it quickly. I don't even have a rack or TV stand to fit the old monster.

I have been asking around on AK. EW and the other commenters been helpful, but this receiver has been a real problem child.

Pix of Super Eleven problem

Guys:

These three grainy cell phone pix show the problem area (the latest problem, anyway). In the third JPEG, the broken right channel connector and output transistor heat sink is shown. In the first two JPEGs, the still functioning left channel is shown.

What is that U shaped connector that attaches to the heat sink with a screw? Is it a standard part I can get from Mouser? Or is it unobtainium?

Thanks for any help on this.
