Hi there
Anybody out there with any experiences with the Heed Quasar Phono stage?
Like it but have seen pictures of it where different components have been used in what I think is an attempt to keep cost down. So naturally wondering if anybody have had any experience in selected parts replacements?
One specific recommendation is for what you would use as a drop in replacement for a 10uf 100v box design MKT cap? The ones used now are totally unknown to me and are only marked AV (designed logo pulled together) and R60.
Any advice would be appreciated..

Well, the problem is the old 1/8th rule; means about 1/8 of the retail price is material cost, another 1/8 is assembly. So any half decent piece of gear is actually heavy cut down in the materials department, that's where DIY comes in 😉
Any case, I'm getting off-track, a schematic would greatly help giving recommendations.

Don't have a a diagram, but here is a link with some pretty good pictures of the unit.

Nobody with any suggestions?
I would up the 10uF MKT to 47uf electrolytic if your preamp has 10k input impedance. Assuming the MKTs are output coupling caps.
The Q-PSU pwer supply is nothing special: I see cheap Jamicon caps 1000uF, 35V and 1N4001 rectifiers. No problem finding a 50-Watt toroid.
So you can do better using soft recovery diodes and better capacitors, and bigger
I have the Quasar and love it. I am running it off the wall wart and not the power supply unit. Wish I was better with electronics as I'd love to build my own power supply, but I'm going to go balanced and buy an Ayre phono and sell the Quasar. It's the best under 2k phono I have heard. I'm using it with Vandersteen Treo's and an Ayre integrated with top AQ cabling. The TT is a Basis 1400 with Benz Glider cart. Would love to hear what you guys do for the power supply.
