being technician I am aware of that or in other words thats what I would expect. If that is in fact the case then I should be able to reverse the situation in about two weeks when I should be getting my FE206ESR. Just for grins I will be mounting them in the changs to see if the sound pressure comes up to par with the FE206E type drivers.
I wouldn't read too much into your results... you have different drivers in different cabinets. The speakers should sound different. Thanks for posting your comments about their sound... keep the comments coming and good luck with your swapping.
Exactly! I really appreciate your findings Now where's those pics??
Hello DIY'ers,
There is a new Sonodyne SD-855 driver that I have a chance to buy for $600 in Korea (not including shipping). I am not up to trying to convince my wife to let me build a couple more Sachiko's. The Fonken for 8" drivers would probably work, but I have no plans.
I must confess that I do not have a good base of knowledge in order to make decisions in this matter.
For the sake of space, I was hoping to use a Half -Chang to operate this driver, but do not know if it would work with this driver- here are the specs:
Beautiful 8 Inch South Korean Fullrange Drivers
Is there anyone who could help or consult with me on this? I am open to suggestions- I would be very happy to pay them for up to say a couple hours work at say a total of $50/hour for some good guidance- I know it takes some time to look at the data. I need some help on this. The Fonken for 8" drivers would probably work, but I have no plans for an 8" driver.
Note, if it is of any interest to others- I can buy these speakers for $500 per each/FOB Korea if I can put together an order of 5 pairs of drivers- if anyone is interested.
Thanks for any ideas- I appreciate it!

I don't post much on forums these days (lack of time), but if you give me a shout at my frugalhorn email address we can sort something out for you easily enough. Based on the published data, there's no reason why it shouldn't work well in a variation of one of my cabinets.
The Sachikos have a full sound, they paint a picture very vividly. They are efficient, they are loud, they are colorful.
Hi Andreas,
I agree with you on the Sachikos. In my life, I have never heard a speaker that could fill a whole home with music like this speaker can- the vivid, clean, and full sound goes even into other rooms if you just turn up the volume. And do they ever have volume!
I wonder if it would be possible to have 'Half Sachiko' speakers?
Karl
Given the relative ease of making premier speakers on your own, and the fact that you can get a 50-80% discount off the equivalent product in an audio store with DIY projects, I wonder why these Full Range DIY projects are not more popular than they are?
In my case, I really never thought of it- until Tom Scata in the Single End Triode group (SET group) mentioned that I could have a pair of Sachiko's built for a few hundred dollars more than I was considering spending for a good pair of used Full Range Fostex FE206e based speakers!
I wonder if I should publish my letter as a DIY project in one of these newsletters. I have lots of photo's to go along with the narrative.

I think the short answer is - it would be less than half the speaker in performance

Karl,
Your high praise (most likely well deserved) of the Sachiko's make my ears yearn for a listen. How big is your listening space?

...and i'll guess not a whole lot different than the Fostex (FE208E∑, FE206ES-R) recommended BLH plans.

Hi Zia,
My listening space is something like 18X26'. If I leave the door open to the basement, the music still sounds good to me upstairs. The sound is unlike anything I have heard before. I am not saying that the sound is perfect upstairs from the stereo- but it sounds way better than anything else I have ever heard in similar circumstances.
There is definitely a high-end sweet spot, but the music sounds nearly perfect even if you are way off to one side or the other (except for the very high end).

Hi Zia,
If I could make up a perfect listening room I am sure it could sound better.
Remember, except for one sub-woofer crossed over at approx. 45hz, the whole music experience is driven by two 8" drivers. There is no tweeter and there is no crossover!
Everyone is blown away by the sound, and it kills me to think how simple the whole setup is. The sound is created by a good Fostex driver, and an incredible speaker box. The Sachiko is larger than most wives would like, but it throws out a gigantic image of music.
Anyway, I love it.

Review of Sachiko / Madison Type Speaker- Great comments.
If anyone is interested in reading another review of the Sachiko type speaker, here is another review. This impression is very similar to mine- Enjoy!
Plus: There are some great comments below the first review.

The more I hear about the Sachiko, the more I feel like building them .
My wife has been very supportive with my DIY builds (BIB, Super Pensil 12, Micro Towers)... next project likely something smaller like a Fonken maybe. But never say never . I'll be on the lookout for Fostex FE206 at a good price...
You sir, enjoy the music!

The enclosures of (now defunct?) Cardersound were designs of Scott's commissioned by Jeff Carder, so physical and performance similarities to Sachikos etc is not all that surprising..
and a full reading of the above thread reminds me again that while all of us can revert to kindergarden from time to time, this is a generally much more civil and collaborative sand-box in which to play

Be aware that the large double (forward) mouth BL:H or BVR type designs that extract the full potential from drivers such as the FE206 are more well suited to large rooms with minimum listening distances of at least 10-12ft for optimal integration of mouth / driver output
Take a look at Scott's rear-mouthed V-Bomber series (Valiant / Vulcan). They don't require corner loading, such as I find "helpful" with the FH3 with FE126E, and while best with some clearance from rear / side boundaries, they might deliver better sound-stage dimension in rooms requiring closer primary listening positions.

I am pretty sure Jeff would like to pheonix Cardersound. Trying to launch a start-up and have an economic turndown hit you head on has him licking his (financial) wounds.
The 1st gen cabinets where Saburo, Hiro, and Sachiko. Nina was unique, The V2s were a development of these specifically for Jeff.
