I was given a pair of these for free due to the fact both bottom woofers need to be refoamed and both upper mids have been replaced with 6.5" Sansui drivers. I think one or both is missing one of the tweeters. My question is where do I track down the original mids, tweeters and possibly a set of emblems? are there suitable drivers for upgrade on these. I've heard a lot of good things about these but want to just get them going with the proper drivers before I do a complete physical overhaul. Looks like they have a decent build quality. Anyone redone these before?

hi, first my english is bad....http://files.diyaudio.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
but i think you need help.
last week i make my sonab oa-116 ready to listen to. it´s the hifi heaven
you miss 2 tweeters?
there are six tweeters to every speaker, the last place (7th) is to put one of the tweeters in another position. you don´t have 6 tweeters, i have 4 of them.
the mids are the biggest problem, original sonab mids are not avalible in europe.
i think it´s the same in america?
they must have 16 Ohm, but it is not the important speaker of these oa-116. replace it with a good working speaker with 16 Ohm, playing 200 Hz - 2500 HZ. the sansui have 16 Ohm?
the woofers are the important speakers - they must have 5,3 ohm in original.
refoam the speakers with foam material, not with rubber.
for emblems look to ebay...

Old thread, yes.
But, anyhow... have a look here: CarlssonPlanet.com • Sonab OA-116
New, and much much better, tweeters are available. Developed by the Stig Carlsson Foundation, they are called T22. They are pretty expensive, and since there are alot of tweeters on these it'll add up to large sums.
CT-62 are okey cheap replacements, but on OA-116 the tweeters usually are fine as they are. (That's not the case with the smaller OA-12 and OA-14 models.)
There should be six tweeters on each speaker.
The bass is a 5.3ohm speaker, and the midrange is a 16ohm. There are no perfect replacement available for any of them, the best solution is to find good original drivers and refoam them.
There are bass speakers available for the smaller models that use 8 ohm elements. Those are called B65oaII.
Some Silver Flute elements has been used as replacements for both the bass and the midrange aswell, with good results. I don't know what models right now, thou.
I sold my OA-116s a year back. Great speakers, but my other speakers are even better. I had them as an interim solution while my daughter was very young. 🙂
Edit: The replacement parts I'm refering to are available in Sweden, but I'm sure they can be ordered overseas too.
