Well, those blue bells 'stick out like a sore thumb' in online pictures, so free advertising??
First thing I'd do would be repaint over the blue and the large Edcor label....if they want free adverts, they can give me a discount.... or go to a classy badge like some of the high-priced can transformers...
In my experience with powder-coated stuff on my boat, powder-coating is quite over-rated. No more durable than decent paint.
It's a long way from the 'porcelain' coatings on old metal stoves and pots, etc....
Edcor is a typical company that is run by a semi-entrepreneurial techie, rather than a true business minded entrepreneur. All marketing knowledge came through trial and error, not intuition or training.
I keep imagining them looking for investors...
Investor: "So what sets your company/product apart from your competition?"
Edcor: "Our products are blue, they really stand out!"

Yes, I believe they have sacrificed a LOT of sales because of their stubborn attachment to the color and will continue to do so. I don't mind the color, personally, but it's not something I want to see too much on my audio gear.

That's the lazy way. Only lazy, informed or professional painters would do that!
I actually had to strip a whole car once...believe me, there will never be a second time.

If someone based the color of the bell-ends as the deciding factor, they probably shouldn't be allowed around an amplifier in the first place. Edcor offers a fairly high quality transformer for a lot less money than most of the competition, or at least that's what several audio engineers have told me. You can certainly get better transformers from James, O'Netics, or Hashimoto. Lundahl is perhaps lagging in some areas just a bit, but all of them cost more, even much more!
Besides a true diy'er would remain undaunted by a simple paint job.

One thin or two coats of spray paint, after primer if it's down to bare metal. I haven't tried baking yet.......
Don't forget to paint the exposed edge around the perimeter also, as it shows when the end bells are bolted up.
I've been using regular paint, seems to work fine. I may have used barbecue paint once..

My transformer is not square....
I have a One electron BFT-1 power transformer. Before it got in the varnish tank at the factory, the lams were skewed such that the entire transformer is a parallelogram, as if someone dropped it on a it's corner. It has a copper earth shield, though, something that would be nice on an Edcor.

I disagree completely. I want things to look good. Maybe not a million bucks good, but good nonetheless -- without having to repaint something brand new!
No argument there. I'm familiar with Edcor products.
My point was simply that if their transformers were black, they'd undoubtedly be selling many more transformers, possibly many times more. And I'll stick with that point no matter how popular their blue is.
The very existence of this thread is strong evidence in support of my point.
